The papers include a report of the Legal Education Committee, 1934; letters to Lord Macmillan about the Institute from David Hughes Parry, Director of the Institute, and K Howard Drake, Secretary of the Institute, 1934-1952; press cuttings about the Institute, 1934-1986; policy statements of the Institute, 1948-1955, including a statement of development policy, 1950, a legal research policy, 1954, and a joint IALS and School of Oriental and African Studies memorandum of agreement on Library policy, 1951; working papers, such as guest lists, speeches, press cuttings, correspondence and agenda, relating to the opening ceremony of the IALS, 1948; first IALS Prospectus, 1948; second IALS Annual Report, 1948-1949; records relating to the opening of the Nuffield Library, 1950; papers relating to the opening of Charles Clore House [Russell Square], 1976-1979; papers relating to the visit of HRH the Princess Anne, Chancellor, 1986; Academic Secretary's papers relating to the academic future of IALS, 1990-1995, including a proposal to create a Chair of Legal Education at the Institute, 1992; Academic Secretary's papers relating to the publications of IALS histories, 1995, comprising W A Steiner's draft history of IALS, and Mrs Barbara Steiner's reminiscences of early days at IALS; Academic Secretary's collection of obituaries, press cuttings and papers on Muriel Anderson, 1991, Norman Anderson, 1994, and Erwin Griswold, 1995.
