Notebook containing a record of a trip to Petra in 1944, typescript and handwritten accounts of trips in Syria, Mesopotamia and Amman and a poster for an exhibition of Anthony Kersting's photographs.

Aristotle, Italy papers, 15th century, comprise fragments of a single leaf containing part of Leonardo Bruni's translation into Latin of Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, printed in Decem Librorum Moralium Aristotelis Tres Conversationes(Paris, 1535-1537).

Papers, 1887-1947, largely dating from after c1919, of Anthony John Arkell, comprising reports, articles and notes, and chiefly concerning the archaeology, history and ethnology of the Sudan, together with some administrative papers.

Manuscript volume of notes, 1850, containing notes made by Sir Edwin Arnold whilst studying at King's College London including comprising a summary and analysis compiled from notes of Drakenborch, Gronovius, Lipsius, Hermannus and some others of Titus Livy's History of Rome from its foundation, Books XXII and XXIII; word list of the derivation and meaning of words in Homer's Iliad, , books XII, XII and XIV and word list of the derivation and meaning of words in Aeschylus' Eumenides.

Armorials: B. 18-23, B. 28-29. Particularly significant medieval rolls of arms are in B. 29, B. 22 and B. 23.

B. 29 contains three medieval painted rolls of arms: Povey's Roll (time of Edward II); the Heralds' Roll (c 1270-1280), the surviving portion (195 shields) of a larger original (a 15th copy in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, contains 697 shields); Talbot banners (c 1442). Both Povey's Roll and the Heralds' Roll were painted on vellum but the shields have been cut out and mounted on paper.

B. 22 contains three mid to late medieval rolls of arms: Bowyer's Book (c 1440); Collingborne's Book (late 15th century), and Basynge's Book (c 1395).

B. 23 is an early 15th-century German roll of arms.

B. 19 includes the Mandeville Roll, c 1460.

B. 20 consists of 16th century copies of originals including an enlarged version of the c 1312 Parliamentary Roll and the 1308 first Dunstable Roll.

B. 13 and B. 32 are lists of crown leases for the years 1558 to 1570. Some extraneous material has been bound into B. 32 after it left official custody.

Papers of Alfons Barb, c 1924-1979, including working papers, collection of casts of gemstones, correspondence and offprints. The collection contains correspondence; lecture notes on history; newspaper cuttings; papers of other members of the family, including an undated letter of Danton which belonged to A H Beesly; printed reports; pamphlets containing articles by or about Beesly; other pamphlets and reviews; other printed works; and an autographed photograph of Karl Marx. The correspondence is rather slight and only isolated letters from individual correspondents are preserved. There are sets of Beesly's own letters to Henry Crompton and to Frederic Harrison which were probably returned to the family after his death. There are also a few letters to Beesly's brother A H Beesly and to Alfred Beesly, E S Beesly's son.

The papers of Abbott, Clayton and Morris consist of the business and family records of two generations and form one of the earliest and largest extant collections of Stuart-era financial records. There are also related records of Sir George Jeffreys, 1st Baron Jeffreys of Wem (1648-1689), a close personal friend of Robert Clayton. (Clayton was appointed by Jeffreys as a trustee of his family settlement drawn up in 1689.) Jeffreys was Common Serjeant (1671-1678) and Recorder of London (1678-1680).

Stephens said to me in 1902 about the batch of sketches [D G] Rossetti gave to [E C] Burne Jones and destroyed on seeing them one day afterwards in Burne Jones' room'.

Notes on the placenames of medieval London, by Marc Fitch, arranged from Fitch's drafts by Dr Jessica Freeman. Readers should be aware, however, that these notes, although written with a view to eventual publication, were preliminary. Specialist advisors invited to comment at the time of compilation expressed reservations about the range and depth of documentary coverage.
