The collection comprises the archives of the Cusichaca Trust. The Trust undertook three main projects, as described above, which are represented in subfonds 2, 3, and 4. The materials in other subfonds mostly relate to these three projects, but are in a specific format (such as photographs) or are a distinct type of record (such as Trust Governance). There are further details as to how these sections relate to each other in the arrangement note section. Overall, the archive includes seven subfonds (CUS/1-7), and one additional series (CUS/8), which includes:

• CUS/1: Trust governance and directors (Ann Kendall) materials, relates to organisational management, administration, and the top-level organisation of the trust. This includes Ann Kendall's notebooks and correspondence.
• CUS/2: Cusichaca project materials (c.1977-1988), relates to the first project the Trust undertook. This was largely archaeological, and relates heavily to excavation, finds, analysis, reconnaissance, outreach, and project administration.
• CUS/3: Patacancha project materials (c.1987-1997), relates to the second major project undertaken by the Trust. During this period, the goals of the Trust's work became increasingly rural developmental, and this section of the archive includes specialist research relating to agriculture, environmental development, canal and terrace restoration. There are also papers relating to excavation work, reconnaissance, outreach, and project administration.
• CUS/4: Ayacucho and Apurimac project materials (c.1997-2013), relates to the last major project undertaken by the Trust. This was largely a rural development and agricultural project, aimed at reviving pre-Hispanic systems. These subfonds include materials relating specifically to archaeology, rural development, project finances, and outreach.
• CUS/5: Plans and maps relate to a variety of archaeological and excavation projects. Many of the plans and maps relate specifically to certain sites and locations such as Huillca Raccay and Patallacta. Some of the maps and plans relate to specific buildings. These materials relate heavily to both the Cusichaca and Patacancha projects respectively.
• CUS/6: Photographic materials relate to various people, locations, activities, and projects. Comprised of various formats, including slides, prints, and negatives. Some of the photographs are in large format. These materials relate strongly to all three major projects.
• CUS/7: Outreach and publicity materials produced to publicise and broadcast the Cusichaca Trust's work and achievements. These include posters, articles, interviews, and materials from the press. These materials relate strongly to all three major projects.
• CUS/8: Ann Kendall's personal, and additional administrative, materials. These relate specifically to the project founder and director and include a combination of personal and professional materials.

Collectively the materials form a combined study of a specific region in the South-Central Andes over several decades. The archaeology, archaeobotany and ethnohistorical work focused on human occupation of the area from the late first millennium BC, through Inca expansion and into the Spanish Colonial period. Furthermore, the archaeological record was placed in its geographical and cultural context through archaeological reconnaissance. The Trust's exploratory work established the existence of many previously undocumented archaeological sites. The collection includes unpublished specialist reports that have rarely been revisited since original creation.

The Trust's ethnographic and much of its environmental work examined the domestic and economic lives of local farming families in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The surviving papers of the Cusichaca Trust also offer a record of the administrative effort involved in sustaining major projects in archaeology, rural development and other disciplines over a 40-year period. They reveal the changing aims and practices of diverse sub-projects, as techniques and approaches within each discipline were shaped by the interests and requirements of academic, governmental and private sponsors.

The collection includes a variety of media types including paper records, photographic materials, maps, plans, and digital media. The types of media, and use of technology evolved as the project progressed. The Cusichaca project materials are exclusively analogue, while the Patacancha and Ayacucho and Apurimac papers are increasingly digital. The archive also chronicles the Trust's changing record keeping practices, and document management systems.

Letters and papers of Charles George Gordon, known as 'Chinese Gordon' and later 'Gordon of Khartoum', with related letters by his brother, Colonel S.E. Gordon, and Captain C Orde Browne, 1856-1884.

The letters and papers document many aspects of Gordon's career, including his service in China and the Sudan. They shed light on his political views, religious faith and personal ambitions and are especially important in showing his interest in biblical history and archaeology.

The letters were largely addressed to fellow officers in the Royal Engineers.

Archaeological artefacts mounted in a case, collected by G I C Ingram, comprising 20 surface stone and pottery finds from a site six miles south of Guildford, Surrey, near to the hutted hospital where St Thomas's Hospital was evacuated during WW2. Most of the notes are not in Lewis's hand. They are draft footnotes and suggestions for a preface for an illustrated edition of Juvenal, apparently produced by Lewis's students, though not published. There are other notes on classical archaeology and philology, and also notes on the Turkish language.

Records of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society, relating not only to the everyday administration of the Society (Acc/2899/01 and Acc/2899/02), but also to social and educational activities. Acc/2899/03 contains a large quantity of information relating to the latter. In the main the records date from the beginning of the twentieth century to the 1970's, although there is a sizeable amount of earlier material, and a small amount for later years

Papers of George Prideaux Brabant Naish. Included are personal and research papers of the Reverend Francis Naish, some relating to his identification of the Burlesdon wreck as the GRACE DIEU. There are also papers which relate to George Naish's command of the Anti-Submarine Fixed Defence Station, Fort Agami, Alexandria, 1945-6. Papers relating to his role as Secretary to the Society for Nautical Research between 1947 and 1977 may be found in the archive of the Society at this Museum.

Papers of Henry Solomon Wellcome, 1800-1985, comprising articles, publications, financial records, legal records, administrative documents, property details, probate records, marriage and divorce records, diaries, microfiche of letter books, details of events, subscription lists, field and geological reports, press cuttings, photographs, ephemera, objects, and family papers dating back to 1800.

Correspondence with John Sebelien.

The collection covers both Pettigrew's medical and antiquarian activities, which are intermingled in the material's arrangement. The medical items include correspondence with many medical figures, medical jurisprudence (an Anniversary Oration delivered to the Medical Society of London), corpulence, hydrophobia, medical observations by army officers in India, and an autobiographical memoir of the philanthropist and prison-reformer James Neild (1744-1814), transcribed by Pettigrew and incorporated into his life of John Coakley Lettsom M.D. The antiquarian items include material on Kett's Rebellion, Hindu deities, the library of the Duke of Sussex and correspondence with the Italian antiquary Giovanni Spano (1803-1878) and Gaetano Cara, as part of Pettigrew's role as Vice-President of the British Archaeological Society. Types of material held include notebooks, loose papers, correspondence and diplomas.

Papers of William Mcpherson Rice, comprising a 'Journal kept in passing through the different offices of HM Dockyard, Deptford, 1820', papers relating to the excavation of an ancient vessel found in the River Rother in Kent, in 1822; a log and a diary of Rice's voyage to South America and papers on the TERROR. There are also service papers, some correspondence, including several letters from Admiral Sir Thomas Byam Martin (1773-1854), and a sketchbook. Three older documents, presumably collected by Rice, also form part of the collection, as do the service papers of Charles Brown, Master, RN, 1815-1850.

Papers of Francis Rodd, including typescript copies of journals and astronomical and hypsometric records on expeditions to Air and the southern Sahara, 1922 and 1927. Seven folders of notes and correspondence relating to the same expeditions: notes on the Sahara from authorities of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; journal of route in 1927, with geographical and meteorological notes; drawings, unused chapters of Rodd's book People of the veil; copies of rock drawings, drafts for book lectures; diary, 1927; correspondence concerning the planning and conclusion of the expedition; papers on special subjects arising out of the 1927 expedition including botanical, anthropological and archaeological; survey notes; notes on instruments and chronometer ratings and letters from Francis and Peter Rodd to their parents, May-Jun 1927.

Personal and professional correspondence, photographs and papers of George Rolleston and his son Sir Humphry Rolleston, 1805-1947. There are also miscellaneous Rolleston family papers, as well as 2 papers given by John Davy Rolleston. George Rolleston's main areas of research were in comparative anatomy, zoology, archaeology, anthropology - his correspondence was often with contempories who were prominent in the same or related fields (botanists, biologists, natural historians). Humphry Rolleston was a keen photographer, and his albums contain a total of 323 photographs. These include portraits of relatives and friends, as well as contemporaries who were subsequently prominent in medicine and surgery. There are also general photographs taken during his career in medicine which are of interest for medical historians. His correspondence and papers cover both professional and personal matters.

Minute books, Annual Reports and Accounts of the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies, (generally known as the Roman Society), 1910-2002. Apart from the formal minutes and accounts very little material has been retained relating to the early history of the Society.

Manuscript copy, [1786], of a work by Richard Payne Knight entitled An Account of the Remains of the Worship of Priapus, lately existing at Isernia, in the Kingdom of Naples...to which is added a discourse on the worship of Priapus, and its connexion with the mystic theology of the ancients, which was privately published and distributed by Payne Knight in 1786, who gave a copy to each member of the Dilettanti Society. The work, however, was so severely attacked by Thomas James Mathias that the author endeavoured to buy back all the copies. It is unclear whether this manuscript is the original of Payne Knight's work, or a copy made by another person following the publication of the work.

Correspondence, publications and press cuttings, 1959-1987, collected by Roger Virgoe, relating largely to the University of Khartoum and the political situation in the Sudan in the 1960s. Letters from colleagues and staff at the University describe the lead up to and events of the demonstrations in 1964. Publications include copies of the University of Khartoum Bulletin (1961-1964), reports on educational policy and reform (from 1959), and material relating to Sudanese history and antiquities (including a publication by A. J. Arkell).
