The 'Piers Plowman' manuscript is written in a set book-hand on both sides of 97 folio leaves of vellum and is bound in modern white pig skin. The first page of the manuscript is decorated with an illuminated capital in blue, with red and brown ink penwork heightened with gold; the capital at the beginning of each Passus is blue with red ink decorations; Latin words in the text, names and the beginning and end of each Passus are written in red ink.
'La Estorie del Evangelie', a manuscript poem of 2206 lines, is written in the same book hand as 'The Vision of Piers Plowman', on both sides of 17 folio leaves of vellum. A space has been left for the initial 'S' but there is otherwise no rubrication, though spaces possibly for illustration, appear between the various sections of the manuscript.

These include his involvement in the publishing business, and bookselling activities. Most of the correspondence is related to social and family matters. There are various typescripts related to the activities of the Blue Moon Press available, some of them with manuscript corrections and signed by the authors. A file of newspaper cuttings consisting mainly of reviews of published works provides additional information on the publishing activities in London at the time. Most of the correspondence lack important details such as dates or clear identification of writer. Some of the correspondence has been annotated for Ms Oonagh Lahr before she handed the collection to the University of London. Some of the annotations were written in pencil on the same documents while other notes are attached with the originals. Where these give added information to that in the documents, these notes have been kept with the originals. Some of the photographs have notes written on their reverse identifying some of the persons featuring in them. This was also done by Ms Oonagh Lahr.Esther Lahr clearly played a significant role in the running of both the bookshop and the various publishing ventures in which Charles Lahr engaged. The flies there '... are built with metallic springs and leather in every respect as a large Landau, the wheels under 30 inches and driven by one ass'. Attree had evidently not answered [and perhaps not received] Kirkpatrick's earlier letter on the same subject.

The 1917 diary entries were written on the ' Mission to the Women of Russia'. The 1917 entries are flanked by an 'introduction' and by discursive notes, written in the 1960s, on the cultural and historical links of Russia and Great Britain, the fate of the Women's Battalions, an essay on Mazzini, and a concluding section on the Price of Library.
The diary refers to the atmosphere and events in St Petersburg and Moscow, also the meetings addressed by Jessie Kenney and Mrs Pankhurst. They met the leader of one of the Women's Battalions, formed to defend Russia against invasion, and many notables including Kerensky, Prince Youssoupoff, and Plekhanov, the leader of the Menshevik Party.
