The maps and plans are arranged as follows: plans of City of London properties, 17th century-1846; plans of City of Westminster properties, 17th century-[1913?]; plans of properties within Greater London, 17th century-1881; maps and plans of Christ's Hospital site in London, [1650]-1883; maps and plans relating to the exchange of properties between Christ's Hospital and St Bartholomew's Hospital, 1796-1818; maps and plans relating to properties outside London, including the school sites at Hertford, Ware and Horsham, 1597-1934.
Records of Embroiderers' Almshouses, 1587 - 1890: David Smith, an embroiderer of London, bequeathed money to Christ's Hospital for the building of six almshouses for six poor widows. After the almshouses were sold in 1863-5 it appears that the widows continued to receive financial support. These records comprise: contemporary copy will of David Smith, [1587]; ordinances and rules, [1587]; correspondence and other papers relating to arrears in payments, boundary disputes etc, [1678]-1687, 1711-12, 1718; correspondence and other papers concerning the sale of the almshouses and investment of money, 1863-5, 1887; letter concerning payment of rates, 1857; and register of people receiving pensions, 1825-1908. Further references may also be found in other Christs' Hospital records such as minutes and accounts.

About three-quarters of the records are solely of Bridewell Royal Hospital and have been catalogued as Bridewell Royal Hospital; the other quarter are joint records of the Royal Hospitals of Bridewell and Bethlem and have been catalogued under that name. A few records are essentially of Bridewell but have some Bethlem subject content. The joint records are largely constitutional, court, accounts and joint estate records, with some clerk's correspondence relating to both hospitals.
The archive has been catalogued in one block, regardless of whether individual records are of Bridewell Royal Hospital only or of Bridewell and Bethlem jointly. The archive includes Constitutional records; Minutes; Legal papers; Accounts; Clerk's papers; Prison records; Apprenticeship records; School records; Legacies; Estates records; Bridewell Chapel records; Bridewell Precinct records; and officers' private papers.
There is a general 30 year closure period. Pupil records have a 100 year closure period.
