The Parker Papers, 1943-1982, mainly consist of comments, corrections and suggestions from those to whom John Parker sent the first thoughts of the various chapters which would eventually form the basis of his memoirs, Father of the House, published in 1982 by Routledge and Kegan Paul Ltd. They also include various official related records concerned with particularly interesting or important moments from his political career. They consist mainly of correspondence, memorandums, reports and notes. These papers were all deposited upon the publication of his, previously mentioned, book of memoirs.

The collection consists of six separate series of records, ranging virtually the entire span of his time in the House of Commons. The six series reflect the way in which John Parker maintained his papers, each concerning a specific topic. These include records concerning his various literary compositions, the Legitimacy Act of 1959, Select Committee on Procedure, Speaker's Conference on Electoral Law and Sunday Observance.

Research papers of Sir Henry Phelps Brown, covering wages and prices during his lifetime, and a further collection of papers relating to research and public work, including book reviews, an enquiry into the mobility of labour and a brief autobiography.

The records of Section F principally concern the annual conferences of the British Association and the involvement of the Section in them, 1973-1998.

The bulk of the collection consists of files which mostly contain correspondence and minutes. They also include programmes for the conferences, publishing contracts, financial accounts, draft copies of articles and lectures.

In addition to these files, there is a selection of the publications which were produced by Section F, including some of the publications of the proceedings of Section F at the annual conferences of the British Association. Finally there are various exhibits which were part of the 'British Economists' exhibition by Leslie Smyth at the University of Keele.

Papers of Beatrice Serota, 1953-2002, relate to her work in London local government, as a Minister of State, member of the House of Lords and of a number of advisory bodies and committees, including the Advisory Council on the Penal System and the Commission on Local Administration. Most of the papers are either carbon or typescript copies, rather than original documents.

Subjects covered include the origins of smallholdings policy; smallholdings legislation; the financial position of smallholdings authorities; the management costs of smallholdings estates; the social and economic position of smallholders; the geographical distribution of smallholdings estates.

Survival Programmes comprises photographs (all black and white), interview transcripts, drafts and other materials relating to the book Survival Programmes by the Exit Photography Group (Nicholas Battye/Chris Steele-Perkins/Paul Trevor). The photographs and interviews were made between 1974 and 1979, and record life in Britain's inner urban areas in the 1970s.

Papers of David Vasmer, 1971-2001, comprise papers regarding the Liberal Party and the Liberal Democrats, including documents relating to the merger, conference papers and publications. There are also files relating to the ALC (Association of Liberal Councillors), ASLDC (Association of Social and Liberal Democrat Councillors) and ALDC (Assocation of Liberal Democrat Councillors), including annual reports, minutes, artwork, and publications (such as circulars, leaflets and guides).

Betacam taped interviews, transcripts of interviews with leading American political and military figures and conference papers, assembled by Brian Lapping Associates Ltd in research for the making of the BBC programme The Washington Version concerning the Gulf Conflict, 1990-1991.

In addition to printed works are original artworks by Eckersley, these demonstrate Eckersley's production techniques.

The collection contains promotional material and samplers, primarily but not exclusively from paper companies. The material utilises a variety of art forms including photography, graphic art and illustration. Seven items within the collection are promotional samplers from Gilbert Paper in the USA.
