Printed resolution of Lord Hood's Election Committee, 29 June 1790. The Committee resolves that since the "National Business at this present Crisis" occupies all Lord Hood's attention, preventing him from addressing the electors in person, his conduct is to be rewarded by the Committee's "most animated Exertions in his Lordship's Favor". It is resolved that by supporting Lord Hood in the poll, other public figures will be encouraged to emulate his example of devotion to duty, the virtue which has made the British Navy terrible to their enemies.

Personal papers of Willoughby Hyett Dickinson, Lord Dickinson of Painwick. These papers reflect Dickinson's interests as a London County Councillor, an MP and a peer, and also his involvement in the London Liberal Federation, of which he was Chairman 1896-1918, the World Alliance for promoting International Friendship through the Churches and the League of Nations Union.

The collection contains minutes of meetings of the Executive Committee and the General Management Committee from 1924 to 1983 although with substantial gaps. There are also minutes of meetings of the East Putney branch and the Thamesfield Ward branch of Putney Labour Party. There are also several Annual Reports as well as correspondence relating to elections, membership and general party business. Also includes newspaper cuttings, posters, pamphlets and other publications.

The collection includes a letter from Disraeli, at 10 Downing Street, London to Colonel Caulfield Pratt, S Christie Miller and Richard Rose, agreeing to allow the subscribers to pay his election expenses: 'I can only look upon it as the act of a generous and high spirited constituency, which, though I may not merit, it would be presumption to decline' (6 May 1874); privately printed circular concerning the scheme for subscription, including a printed copy of three letters and a list of subscribers (undated [May 1874]); a letter from Corry, 10 Downing Street, to Christie-Miller, regarding the subscription scheme (4 Mar 1874); letter from Corry, 10 Downing Street, to Christie-Miller, enclosing a copy of item (1) (6 May 1874); letter from Leveson-Gower, Windsor Castle, to Mrs Christie-Miller, stating the train he would be catching (16 November 1877) and a printed circular bearing the same text as the first two pages of item (2) (undated), items (1-2) bound in a volume labelled: 'The Right Hon. B. Disraeli, Prime Minister[.] Election for the County of Bucks, 1874'; the remaining items enclosed in a pocket at the front of the volume.

Papers relating to Lord Merlyn-Rees' political career, 1949-2002, concerning his role as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. Among the papers are: transcripts of Merlyn Rees' taped diary, 1972-1976. These are a very useful insight into Rees' contemporary views on politics and events in Northern Ireland. Included are accounts of: the Ulster Workers' Strike; the collapse of the power sharing executive; the Constitutional Convention; meetings with politicians; parliamentary proceedings; and, security matters such as internment and special category status for paramilitary prisoners. The diaries also contain comments on UK politics generally (MERLYN-REES/1); articles, lectures and speeches by Lord Merlyn-Rees, 1965-2002, including speeches made while he was Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and Home Secretary (MERLYN-REES/2); drafts of 'Northern Ireland: a personal perspective' (MERLYN-REES/3); correspondence, timetables and other papers regarding visits to Northern Ireland by Merlyn Rees and Colleen Rees, mainly 1972-1976 (MERLYN-REES/4); official papers, mainly 1974-1976 (MERLYN-REES/5); Northern Ireland Office press notices, 1974-1976 (MERLYN-REES/6); correspondence files, 1971-1997 (MERLYN-REES/7); subject files relating to Northern Ireland, including correspondence, official memoranda (including memos from Roger Darlington, political adviser/researcher), articles, press cuttings and other papers. Political papers and correspondence regarding Reginald Prentice's de-selection by his Newham North East constituency, the 1976 Labour Party conference on Blackpool, his defection to the Conservative Party and general political activities.

The collection of the politician Neville Sandelson, 1923-1996, includes a series of scrapbooks of press cuttings covering Sandelson's period as an MP, files relating to the Hayes and Harlington constituency, and papers on the Labour Party and the SDP. Sandelson took a keen interest in foreign affairs, and there are files on the Middle East, Afghanistan, Gibraltar and Northern Ireland. There is also an extensive collection of photographs documenting his political life.

The majority of this collection consists of correspondence between Vyvyan Adams other politicians, his constituents and letters regarding his candidacy. The collection is divided into eight sections: Section 1: Correspondence, 1924-1951; Section 2: Miscellaneous papers, 1895-1941; Section 3: Articles and transcripts, 1912-1944; Section 4: Speeches, 1933-1939; Section 5: Pamphlets and printed materials, 1914-1953; Section 6: Capital punishment, 1929-1949; Section 7: Press cuttings, 1933-1950; Section 8: Coronation souvenirs, 1937. The political correspondence and the ordered files correspondence reflects his opposition to appeasment policies and the general themes of the time. Articles and transcripts relate to political figures of the time and the publication of Right Honourable Gentlemen. Speeches cover miscellaneous topics. Pamphlets and printed material cover international issues. The capital punishment file contains miscellaneous material relating to capital punishment. Press cuttings relate to political affairs. Coronation souvenirs contain miscellaneous items relating to the 1936 coronation of Edward VIII.

Papers of the Enfield East Constituency Labour Party relating to elections and policy. Also nominations books for the Stratford Cooperative and Industrial Society and the Yiewsley and West Drayton District Cooperative Society.

The Enfield Southgate Constituency Labour Party collection consists of papers and correspondence of the co-ordinating group, papers and correspondence relating to the structure review, and campaign papers and video.

Records of Sir David Gammans, MP for Hornsey. The records consist of press cuttings stuck into four series of scrapbooks, with the occasional invitation card, menu or photograph included, and a small group of files containing election addresses, typescript articles, and correspondence.

Personal papers of Hartley Booth, MP. The majority of the archive is concerned with Hartley Booth's parliamentary career. LMA/4021/01 relates to Booth's parliamentary responsibilities, in particular European affairs. In addition there are files containing correspondence and background material which relate to Private Members' Bills promoted by Booth. LMA/4021/01 also contains subject files on national issues that emanated from constituents' cases.

LMA/4021/02 contains constituents' correspondence and case files as well as subject files relating to local issues. LMA/4021/03 contains Conservative Party material and subject files which relate to the period when Booth was a prospective parliamentary candidate. These files relate to both local and national issues.

As the collection consists of parliamentary and constituency material, there is a closure period of 30 years. There is no closure period on the published material in LMA/4021/04.

The records of the London Liberal Party are of interest to anyone wishing to study local and/or national politics with reference to London. The working mechanisms of the LLP and achievements of its staff can be assessed, whilst the varying fortunes of the Local Associations and Liberal Party as a whole can be observed. Much of the material gives a fascinating insight into a range of London-wide and national issues, both familiar and contemporary. The records can also provide a useful commentary on the activities of the Greater London Council, Inner London Education Authority and others.
