Other Professional Roles: contains reports, correspondence, and speeches, relating to Pickles role both as part-time Medical Officer of Health, 1935, and as witness to the Royal Commission on Population, 1944. Also included are a selection of dinner menus from formal occassions which Pickles attended. (1936-1963).

This collection is comprised of records of the Annual General Meeting of the British Paediatric Association and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. It includes: Programmes, agendas and minutes of meetings; Scientific papers and presentations;Photographs and films of meetings.

Material reflecting the more personal aspect of Pickles' life. Includes medals, prizes and awards presented to Pickles in recognition of his work, and the related certificates and correspondence; material about Pickles created by others, including 'Will Pickles of Wensleydale: The Life of a Country Doctor' (1970) the official biography by John Pemberton; correspondence regarding the painting of Pickles portrait, in 1954, for the College of General Practitioners (later the Royal College of General Practitioners); articles and letters regarding significant events in his life, such as his 80th birthday, and his death, in 1969, and the ensuing obituaries. Also includes family and personal papers, amongst them is material of local, genealogical and personal interest, such as the Pickles family tree dating from c 1825, photographs of Pickles and of Aysgarth, and his personal notes and recollections.

Six illustrated manuscripts by the artist Walter Crane, including three notebooks produced for his children - 'Beatrice Crane Her Book', 'Beatrice's Painting Book' and 'Lancelot His Book'. Also includes the manuscripts for two published works 'The Necklace of Princess Fiorimonde' and 'Thoughts in a Hammock' and 'A Herald of Spring', and drawings for an unpublished version of the traditional ballard 'The Blind Beggar's Daughter'.

Minutes of the meetings of the Officers of the Society to discuss matters of policy, the administration and staffing of the Society, and to consider reports from staff.

The Register Books exist in Original and Copy form. The Register Book contains copies of scientific papers submitted to the Society - the original documents may be found in the Classified Papers series. The papers were transcribed to establish their precedence for a particular discovery or idea. It follows that not all communications to the Society were registered in this manner, but only those judged to contain some significant material.

Letters sent to the Royal Society, its President or Officers. Subject matter is both domestic and scientific. Domestic concerns include such matters as instructions from authors on the publication of papers. The letters on scientific topics appear to be those which were considered of small significance, e.g. giving notice of minor inventions, or appealing to the Society for recognition.

The Royal Society's Tercentenary celebrations in 1960 prompted learned societies and centres of academic excellence worldwide to send gifts and messages of congratulations. Presentation books, medals and other memorabilia were presented also. Many of the messages were highly ornate, and this series illustrates a wide range of calligraphic techniques and styles of binding.
