Grant, Edinburgh, to James Gordon, 7 Dec 1785; two receipts of 1799 for money paid by a Mrs. Gordon; and a letter from James and Alexander Gordon at school to their parents in Letterfourie, [1800].
The collection also contains material not apparently relating to the Gordon family: accounts of John Scott, vintner in Portsoy, 'for Letterfouries servants and horses when sundry times in Banff', 22 Dec 1798-3 Jun 1799; a 'Certificate of the term of payment of Lady Fraiser [of Durris]'s annuities, 19 Nov 1776, signed by the town clerk of Aberdeen; and a receipt of 1780 for payment for goods bought from E. Fielder, stationer, London, by a Mr. Ruddick. The connection between the Gordon items and the last two items is unknown.

Letter from T Guinier of Societe l'Avenir Realiste, 23 rue de Grenelle-Saint-Honore, Paris to Frere Hubert, 15 Jul 1868. Covering letter to copies of the brochure Realisme Social, detailing subscription rates: 'en vous priant de bien vouloir utiliser les uns et les autres de la maniare qui vous paraetre le plus fructeux [sic] pour assurer la propagation de nos idees et la reussite de notre A'uvre de regeneration social'.

Henry Samuel Howard Guinness (1888-1975), usually referred to in the papers as "S.G.", was a director of Guinness and Mahon Limited, Dublin, and a senior partner in Guinness, Mahon and Company, London. It appears that he wrote many of the notes on the history of the firm and the Guinness family which can be found in this collection. Some of the bundles and files of papers may also have been compiled by him.

The surviving records of Hambros Bank Limited include:

   2. Correspondence: from 1836-c 1864 there are separate bundles or files for each correspondent or topic, from 1861-1892 there is also a general series of "private letters" in annual bundles;
   3. Loan papers: from 1880 an additional series of correspondence and related papers was kept, arranged in bundles by loan. The bundles were kept in "loan boxes" (if the loan was made) or "rejected addresses" (if the loan was not made);
   4. Agreements;
   5. General business papers;
   6. Administrative papers: internal organisation, title deeds etc;
   7. Family papers.

   There is however a considerable overlap between material in many of the categories mentioned above and a number of documents relate to personal and family as well as business matters. The records of the Hambro family (MS19216- 20B) include baptismal certificates, photographs, papers relating to probate and related items.

The records consist of the three surviving minute books of the Hampstead Provident Dispensary together with a minute book of the United Provident Institution which is only partly used, entries becoming increasingly brief in the late 1860s before ceasing altogether.

Solicitors' correspondence relating to Hampton Wick Roman Catholic Church, dealing with a mortgage on the property and with Land Value Duties, 1909-1912, including three letters from the Right Reverend Monsignor Maurice E. Carton de Wiart, Treasurer to the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster.
