The records of the King's College London Institute of Psychiatry Camberwell Register comprise record and index cards of psychiatric patients, data collection parameters and instruction literature, and related notes and correspondence, [1965-1985]. Half the collection in volume terms consists of record cards of patients containing personal information, dates and details of admission, diagnosis and treatment, with some background comments (boxes 1-31). These are arranged in a numerical sequence that correlates roughly to the date upon which a new patient entered the study. The vast majority of these date from the 1970s. An alphabetical index card system and index book are available to trace the names of individual patients (boxes 32-43). The remainder of the collection (boxes 44-74) comprises questionnaires of some psychiatric patients engaged in the study [1964-1985]; Umatic and VHS video tapes of interviews with psychiatric patients and sufferers of depression, with some interviews with triplet children, 1979-1992; copies of the death certificates of psychiatric patients in the study, [1975-1995]; notes, correspondence, user manuals and trial information relating to the collection of data in the project, including computer databases and user manuals of programs associated with the Register, [1964-1985]; yearly progress reports of the project, 1964-1968; census and population statistics of the Camberwell study area, including street names and indexes, [1964-1985]; data and published material on similar epidemiological studies, principally at Worcester and Cardiff, 1970-1985; secondary literature on the methodology of case registers, 1968-1981.

Papers of William Maiden, 1812-1824, comprising a cutting from the National Register containing a letter to the editor from T Paxton, on 'Mr Tipple's Extraordinary Case', 26 Jul 1812; a copy of the second edition (1813) of the original publication by Maiden titled An Account of a Case of Recovery after an Extraordinary Accident, by which the shaft of a chaise had been forced through the thorax. The label on the front was written by Sir Richard Owen. Including an autograph letter from William Clift to William Maiden, 18 Feb 1824 and an original drawing by William Clift; draft title pages for the re-publication of the Shaft Case by William Maiden, including notes on Mr Tipple's health for the 10 years following the accident, and an account of the post-mortem; manuscript drafts for the introduction of the re-publication of the case; manuscript containing notes on Tipple's health after the accident. These notes were probably written by J W K Parkinson, Mr Tipple's physician after the accident, and his name is written in pencil at the top right on the first page; draft manuscript notes on the Post Mortem of Mr Tipple, 1823; a letter from James Parkinson to Sir William Blizard, 26 Mar 1823 concerning observations made by William Clift on the post-mortem of Mr Tipple; draft manuscripts of a commentary on the case by Sir William Blizard; 22 letters from William Maiden to William Clift, Sir William Blizard and Mr Carpenter concerning the re-publication of the case details, the plates to be published with it, and the procedure for presenting copies of the work to various gentlemen and institutions. The correspondence, papers and diaries of Sir Charles Blagden. Blagden's papers are interesting on several levels, generally for his close contact with European men of learning, and his relationship with Sir Joseph Banks. Blagden's professional researches are represented by medical notes in the boxed sequence. These are grouped with papers on other subject interests, including linguistics, e.g. a draft Tahitian-English dictionary, compiled from conversations with Omai, whom Blagden inoculated after Omai's voyage to England with James Cook. Blagden's interest in antiquities and travel is documented by diary entries, as is his intercourse with fellow scientists, particularly those associated with the founding of the Royal Institution.

Papers of Colin William Fraser McClare, c1957-1981, comprising biographical and autobiographical material; laboratory notebooks c1964-1976; 'ideas' diaries; drafts for lectures and papers (not all published) c1959-c1976; teaching material, in particular for a course on the 'Social Impact of the Biosciences' which started in 1973, with which McClare had been closely involved; a set of McClare's publications including his major papers on bioenergetics and the correspondence arising; correspondence, 1964-1976 (mainly early 1970s), includes letters exchanged with the philosopher Sir Karl Raimund Popper, who offered considerable encouragement to McClare's early attempts to formulate and publish his scientific ideas, and whose philosophy McClare acknowledged as a profound influence.
