This collection of Gimbert family papers dates from 1838 to 1992, covering four generations, and consists mainly of personal records of family members. It includes an apprenticeship deed from 1838 (see ACC/3094/002), some army records, some nineteenth and early twentieth century family photographs and the genealogical notes kept by various family members through the years.

Records of the Salmon and Gluckstein families, 1890-1963. The records relate to the administrative and financial activities of the Gluckstein and Salmon family 'resource pool'. They are not the records of the individual businesses run by the family. Records include minutes of weekly meetings, income and expenditure ledgers, a salary book, family trees and a series of reference volumes containing copies of important documents and recording decisions taken. There is also a file of accounts for the firm Maxwell and Ponting Ltd.

Wood of Hadley, widow of George Wood and William L. Wood of Horton House, Berkshire, army major, by David Jennings of Essex Street, Strand, solicitor, 1834; articles of partnership, establishing partnership in barge-building business (to be known as 'Recknell and White') between William Recknell of High Street, Old Brentford, barge builder and Frederick White of Long Ditton, Surrey, barge builder, 1874; probate of will of George Howell of 33 (formerly 69) Sunnyside Road, Hornsey Rise, carpenter; made 5 July 1878; mortgage for piece of land at Northwood in Ruislip parish (now Murray Road), 1889.

'Epic violet', a draft memoir covering his service with the Air Ministry and the BEF, 1939-1940, notably pre-war air intelligence, the 'phoney war' and air reconnaissance in France, Sep 1939-Apr 1940, the German invasion of France, May 1940, and the evacuation of UK troops from Dunkirk, May-June 1940, written in [1957]. 'Skies to Dunkirk', a memoir based on the above draft,published in 1982.

Papers of John Henry Godfrey covering the majority of Godfrey's long career in the Royal Navy, as well as his very active retirement. Amongst the wide-ranging collection, present are official records of Godfrey's early service, copies of lectures given at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, and various papers relating to his time as DNI, including several NID monographs that offer detailed analysis of various wartime and post war topics. There is also present a large amount of material relating to Godfrey's time as FOCRIN, including letters, reports, promotional recruitment publications, etc. There are also diaries from 1931-1971, and a complete set of Godfrey's unpublished memoirs in 8 volumes.

Fritz Goldschmidt's diaries and eyewitness testimony collection comprises diaries, 1933-1939 (617/1) and a typescript personal account entitled 'Mein Leben in Deutschland vor und nach dem 30 Januar 1933', undated (617/2).

Records of the Good Shepherd Mission Church, Wood Green, including register of baptisms; registers of church services; Parochial Church Council minutes and papers relating to the organist and choirmaster.

Papers of Walter Goodsall, consisting of a biographical note of his early life and diary extracts until 1876. There is a full account for 1881. There are also logs, 1870, 1872, 1883 to 1884, and a technical pamphlet.

Title deeds and other papers relating to the Gort family estates in London, the Isle of Wight and Ireland.

E/GOR/1-174 comprise documents relating mainly to Gresse Street, Stephen Street, Percy Street and Tottenham Court Road, St Pancras, London. E/GOR/175-243 comprise documents relating to East Cowes Castle Estate and other properties at Whippingham and East Cowes, Isle of Wight. E/GOR/244-263 comprise documents relating mainly to Oatlands and Roxborough, Co Limerick, Ireland.

Each of these sections is further divided into: (i) marriage settlements, probates, and other documents listed by person, which cannot be related to a specific property; and (ii) documents listed by property. Except in listing the original numbered series, sub-numbering has only been used where an item was originally enclosed inside another item.

E/GOR/59-174 form an original numbered series. The series contains a few conveyances but consists mainly of licences to demise granted by the Lord of the Manor of Tottenham to a trustee under the will of John Jones, leases made by the trustees under the same will, and assignments of leases.

The properties were held in trust for his daughter, Elizabeth Mary, wife of George Tudor (who was also one of the trustees) and later wife of John Prendergast, Viscount Gort. Each group of deeds relating to a property has an original number (marked in red ink on some of the documents) making it a part of an original series consecutively numbered.

Within this number series the series is ordered by street and then by street number, although occasionally a document relates to different properties in different streets. Many of the documents are not numbered but were found with numbered documents relating to the same properties. This particularly applies to the licences.

Correspondence and papers relating to Lt Gen Sir Robert Grant (see above), including material concerning his career, and correspondence from Gen Sir Henry Redvers Buller, 1900. Letters and papers of Charles John Cecil Grant, notably correspondence with Rosebery, mainly letters written whilst on active service on the Western Front, World War One, 1914-1927, French Gen Maxime Weygand, including comments on the Versailles Treaty and the death of French Marshal Ferdinand Foch, 1919-1948, andLt Gen Sir Oliver William Hargreaves Leese, 3rd Bt, on military operations in Italy during World War Two, 1943-1944. Copies of diary entries and notes written by Charles John Cecil Grant whilst serving as a liaison officer to French Headquarters on the Western Front, World War One, Mar-Nov 1918.

Case records on vascular diseases of the heart, [University College Hospital, London], 1919-1921. These case cards of patients first seen for vascular disease of the heart (VDH) between 1919-1921, were brought together by R D Grant for his study of this condition. The results of his research were published in Heart, Vol VI, June 1933, as 'After histories for 10 years of 1000 men suffering from heart disease: study in prognosis'.

Papers of Samuel Grant, consisting of detailed diaries, 1793 to 1803 (some of them in shorthand), and correspondence and naval papers connected with his work as a purser, 1781 to 1803. These include passes, indentures for a clerk, certificates, financial papers, lists of stores and lists of ships There are also some financial and legal papers relating to the family property in Pembroke.

Papers of Rear-Admiral Thomas Graves. They consist of logs, 1738 to 1744, an official letterbook, 1711 to 1738, a private letterbook, 1721 to 1740, and two order books, 1711 to 1728 and 1739 to 1741. There are some commissions and an abstract of orders received, 1739 to 1743.

Papers of Adml Thomas Graves including logs, 1742 to 1744, 1746 to 1748 and 1779 to 1782; a letterbook, 1793 to 1794; order books, 1788 to 1793; a book of sailing directions with some orders, 1755 to 1756; letters and a volume on courts martial, 1771 to 1780 and 1786 to 1787. There are some loose papers which relate to Graves' court martial and to his Governorship of Newfoundland. The latter contain some documents on hydrographic surveys, among which is a letter of 1764 to Graves from Captain James Cook (1728-1779) There are also some commissions, official letters and drafts, 1764 to 1767, 1777 to 1782, a few private letters, 1782 to 1797 and a biography of Graves up to 1790. Some papers of Admiral Sir Thomas Graves (c 1747-1814) another cousin of Lord Graves are also in the collection. They are orders received as Captain of the Savage, North American Station, 1779 to 1781, and official letters received, 1800 to 1804.

Records of the Greater London Eastern Coroner's District, comprising case papers, 1965-2000. Please note these papers are subject to a 30 year closure period.

For the closed period researchers are advised to consult local newspapers for references to inquests. In very rare cases where medical or legal questions are involved, information from closed records may be made available. It will be necessary to contact the Coroner currently in charge of the court concerned, who has the power to release transcripts or details of inquests to suitable applicants.

The records relate to proprietorship of the recipe for "Doctor Johnson's Golden Ointment" including legal documents and legal case papers; and records relating to the manufacture and sale of the ointment including financial accounts, order books, correspondence, sales summaries, testimonials, advertising, legislation involving patent medicines and history of the ointment. Also various family and estate records.

Index of passages in the diaries of Charles Cavendish Fulke Greville which were suppressed in the published memoirs. The compiler of this index is unknown, but it was probably undertaken soon after the publication of the last volumes of the incomplete edition of the Memoirs in 1887.
