Printed in 1628 and 1629. MS. Harleian 2393 in the British Museum has two versions of the poem, the first "imperfect at the end, as wanting all after the 352 stanza ... It is written to Queen Elizabeth"; the second, like the present MS., "revised and corrected ... being now fitted-up for the perusal of King James I ... and, in the whole, consists of 581 stanzas ... the author, at the end, calls himself Infortunio."; ff 150-164: 'A short view of the Raigne of King Henry the third': The second poem is by Sir Robert Cotton and was printed in 1627. ff 276b-278: 'The bodie'. The collection contains correspondence, diaries, travel journals, accounts, library catalogues and commonplace books of the Kenrick, Reid, Rogers and Sharpe families, which all help to complete the picture of the four related families. The correspondence covers many topics and is especially interesting on three counts: first, for the many letters from eminent men and women; second, for the range and depth of discussion and exchange of ideas on literary, artistic, religious and philosophical matters; and third, for the day-to-day letters written between parent and child over several generations, which provide a detailed account of family life during the period.

The papers of R.W. Innes Smith chiefly relate to his research into various aspects of medical history and biography during the 1920s and early 1930s; and in particular to his interest in British medical students at European universities in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, which led to the publication of his book English-speaking students of medicine at the University of Leyden (Oliver & Boyd: Edinburgh, London, 1932). His papers also include three notebooks dating from his time as a medical student, c1900, but apart from these all the papers appear to date from after 1920. A small number of related items, c1933-c1935, were added to the collection by Innes Smith's daughter after his death.

Papers of Edward Victor Hugo, 1915-1918, comprising a diary relating to the Gallipoli campaign, when Hugo was senior medical officer of the hospital ship GASCON, 1915; a diary including maps of Baghdad and Lower Mesopotamia, relating to Hugo's period in India and Mesopotamia, 1916; a diary relating to the period when Hugo was in Mesopotamia, and was appointed CMG, 1917; a diary relating to the period when Hugo was in Mesopotamia, including inserted letters, 1918. The diaries contain references to the weather, movements of the ship, living conditions, and details of patients attended, and include inserted letters and photographs.
