Sound recordings and papers relating to the radio series 'India: A People Partitioned', 1997. Cassette tapes of interviews (83 tapes) and partial transcripts concern the social history of partition between India and Pakistan (1947) and its effect on people in south Asia. Interviewees included some prominent political and cultural figures, but also 'ordinary' people whose lives were affected by the events surrounding independence, including the large number of refugees created. The subjects discussed include Communism, politicians including Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Muslim League, Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus. Cassette tapes of the five broadcast programmes (3 tapes) are also included: 'The Gathering of the Storm', on the context of partition, disturbances in 1946, and Gandhi's attempts to broker peace; 'The Killing Fields of Punjab', examining partition violence; ' Tearing the Veil', on women's experiences, including abduction; 'Comers and Goers', concerning the experiences of Muslims in India and their dilemma as to whether to migrate to Pakistan or remain in India; 'Unfinished Business', on the Kashmir dispute and the continuing legacy of partition in regional politics, culture and diplomacy. The partial transcripts were made for working purposes and are an indication rather than a definitive record of the contents of the tapes. Appended to the transcripts are copies of an occasional series of articles written by Andrew Whitehead for the Indian Express based on the material he gathered. An additional deposit comprises a cassette tape of the revised programme, 'Unfinished Business', 2000, and six further interview tapes, the interviewees including key participants in India-Pakistan relations, with notes on the contents of the interviews compiled for working purposes.

Papers on works by Shehu dan Fodio include copies of his poems on male-female relationships (1789 and undated) and later papers relating to his work, 1975-1981. Papers on works by Asma'u's female relatives and descendants include copies of poems and writings by various authors (c1860-1934 and undated) and later papers relating to the subject, c1950-1990. Other material comprises field notes on the remnants of Asma'u's disciples, the Yan Taru, 1973-1990; papers on the milieu in which Asma'u lived in Gobir, c1900-1984, including Gobir chiefs; papers, including press cuttings, on the situation of women in northern Nigeria in the 1980s, the subjects including Muslims, prostitution, women's organizations, medical matters, and women's education.

The papers reflect the diversity of his work and interest in the urban and industrial community in Nairobi. Papers, c1830-1925, of Major-General Sir Henry Marion Durand and Sir Henry Mortimer Durand, giving a good picture of their work, particularly Henry Mortimer Durand. These include a set of Henry Mortimer Durand's diaries (1870-1907); a large selection of correspondence (1872-1922) (correspondents include Lord Lansdowne, Grey, Curzon and Roberts); and a collection of press cuttings (1902-1908) relating to the period when he was Ambassador in America. Henry Mortimer Durand also wrote a number of literary works, some of which are present in this collection. Also of interest are a number of family photograph albums, depicting scenes of India, Europe and America.

Diaries, correspondence, photographs and papers, 1911-1984, of Diane Noakes. The majority of the papers relate to her life in England, but some relate to her work in Uganda (1951-1958).

Papers of Thomas Fox-Pitt, 1937-1966, chiefly comprising his correspondence relating to events or major issues in the history of the Central African Federation (which comprised Nyasaland, later Malawi; Northern Rhodesia, later Zambia; and Southern Rhodesia, later Zimbabwe) and the political campaign against it. Files often include pamphlets, press cuttings, maps and newsletters with some bearing on the correspondence. The collection also includes material on Racial Unity; the Anti-Slavery Society; the Movement for Colonial Freedom; and Kenneth Kaunda and his United National Independence Party.

The political correspondence and the ordered files correspondence reflects his opposition to appeasment policies and the general themes of the time. Articles and transcripts relate to political figures of the time and the publication of Right Honourable Gentlemen. Speeches cover miscellaneous topics. Pamphlets and printed material cover international issues. The capital punishment file contains miscellaneous material relating to capital punishment. Press cuttings relate to political affairs. Coronation souvenirs contain miscellaneous items relating to the 1936 coronation of Edward VIII.

The archive spans the existence of The London Institute and the University of the Arts London from the mid-1980s until the present day.

The archive holds material concerning the formation and governance of The London Institute under the aegis of the Inner London Education Authority, the Institute’s change to incorporated status and the transfer to university status as the University of the Arts London. It also records details of school and college mergers as well as institutional and academic developments.

The archive also includes material related to the staff and student experience of the institution such as marketing material, internal newsletters, student publications, course handbooks, prospectuses and research journals.

There is also a large collection of estates plans which depict institutional holdings dating back to the early twentieth century. Around a hundred of these have been digitised and the majority need extensive conservation treatment.

The collection of the Institutional Archive ran parallel to a programme of oral history recordings to capture the memories and experiences of both key decision-makers and long-serving academic, technical and operational staff.

The archive comprises weave samples, designs on paper, works on paper, sketchbooks, notebooks and resources relating to Sawyer’s teaching. It also contains industrial ephemera and published material relating to textile production.

This archive contains the personal papers of Betty Willingale (1927-2021).
The archive spans much of her early work at BBC Script Unit, through to projects for Carnival Productions for ITV and also Midsomer Murders, for ITV. It also contains awards, photographs and memorabilia relating to her work in television.

Material submitted by UAL students for the annual 'Tell Us About It' project. Submissions for each student include a piece of work accompanied by a written statement which is intended to reflect their experience studying at the University of the Arts London. The submissions vary in form and media as students were given an open brief. Material includes digital video files; paintings; booklets; textiles and typescript statements as well as 3D objects including glass bottles and wooden boxes.

The project did not run in the academic year 2013-2014 therefore there is no series for that year.

This collection consists of the records of the National Reye's Syndrome Foundation (NRSF). It includes the papers of the founders of the charity, Audrey and Clifford Harrington, alongside records of Gordon Denney, and the papers of Dr Susan Hall.

The records predominantly relate to the administration of the charity, including records relating to the AGM, finances, publicity and Trustees of the NRSF. The collection includes a large amount of correspondence, particularly between parents of children affected by Reye's syndrome, clinicians, and the NRSF.

Records relating to the life of Gordon Denney provide an overview of the history and the achievements of the charity. The papers of Dr Susan Hall primarily relate to research on Reye's syndrome. To supplement the collection, a number of textbooks and research articles collected by the NRSF which directly relate to Reye's syndrome, aspirin use, and childhood illnesses are included.

Records of Franklin and Deacon, architects and surveyors, 1922-1938, consisting of correspondence, tenders, estimates, specifications, plans and photographs of building work carried out at various public houses and other properties in Harrow Weald, East Sheen, Wembley, Regent's Park and Edgware.

The records of this collection fall into two related groups: the records of three Huguenot families who came to England between 1685 and 1690 (ACC/2079/A-C); and the records of several successive firms of solicitors in which one of the descendants of those Huguenot families, P A Hanrott, worked (ACC/2079/D-F).

The collection is of interest for the study of Huguenot families, and contains a good deal of genealogical information (see for example the Gascherie family tree in AC/2079/A/1/24). Papers of the Gascherie and Chesneau families are arranged in four groups. The first group is the largest and consists of documents relating to a legal action brought by Madeleine Gashry on behalf of her mother Suzanne Gascherie, widow of Francois Gashry (see ACC/2079/B1), in La Rochelle to reclaim lands inherited by more distant relations on the death of her sister, Suzanne Gashry (Gascherie) in November 1762. The case required extensive proof of family relationships and copies of baptism, marriage and burial register entries were produced, as well as wills and marriage contracts and other legal documents relating to the lands in question (ACC/2079/A1/003-036). The case was conducted by agents in La Rochelle as Madeleine Gashry and her mother were in Amsterdam and The Hague at the time (ACC/2079/A1/001-002). Although these records partly relate to the Gashry family, they chiefly refer to lands held by Estienne Gascherie, Suzanne Chesneau, his wife and the inherited title of their daughter, Suzanne Gascherie, widow of Francois Gashry. Other records of the Gashry family are listed in section B.

The second group consists of other papers of Estienne and Suzanne Gascherie, including receipts for soldiers billetted on them in La Rochelle in 1685 (ACC/2079/A2/001) and a bond concerning a ship which may have been used to bring Estienne Gascherie to England (ACC/2079/A2/002).

The third group represents the papers of Brigadier Paul de la Gascherie, son of Estienne and Suzanne Gascherie, whose invention concerning sails and keels of ships won him a pension from the Estates General of the Netherlands (ACC/2079/A3/001). He worked all over Europe fitting his invention to ships of various fleets. He went to Moscow and Poland (ACC/2079/A3/016-025) and was in Portugal at the time of the Lisbon earthquake (ACC/2079/A3/008).

The fourth group of papers relates to the Chesneau family, principally the parents of Estienne Gascherie's wife, Suzanne Chesneau. They were French Protestants, and it would seem that Suzanne's father was imprisoned (if not even sentenced to death) during anti-protestant feeling in 1656 (ACC/2079/A4/001). This may explain the context of the exhortation written by Suzanne's mother to both her children, encouraging them to stand firm in the Protestant faith (ACC/2079/A4/003).

The records of the Archbishop of York's estates are interesting for a study of development of the Battersea and Wandsworth areas. The arrangement of the documents reflects these four aspects of their work. ACC/2079/F1 consists of general documents relating to the sale of the Battersea estates, the original deeds, precedents for the Archbishop's tenure of the estates, schedules of deeds and leases, and correspondence relating to more than one property. ACC/2079/F2 consists of documents relating to the Battersea and Wandsworth estates arranged alphabetically by tenant, as the holdings are not described fully enough to arrange them topographically. ACC/2079/F3 refers to the purchase of estates in Bishopthorpe and ACC/2079/F4 to the purchase of Lord Petre's house in Grosvenor Square.

There are also several items in the collection which do not appear to have any connection with the families or the solicitors' firms (ACC/2079/G). P A Hanrott collected a large library, and it is possible that these records were also collected by him.
