45 original family letters, 1857-1961, including between Hugh Reginald Haweis and his parents, Mary Eliza Haweis and her husband, children and aunt; c. 25 drawings and poems by Mary Eliza Joy before her marriage, including designs for her monogram; Haweis family memorabilia.

• Bound volumes containing typescript transcriptions of letters and other writings from the period 1856 to 1900, collated by her son, Lionel Haweis, 1931-1941. The volumes also contain a small amount of original material, e.g. press cuttings, printed ephemera and letters. The commentary and annotations provided by Mary's sons Lionel and Stephen make these volumes more than mere copies, providing contextual personal information about their family life.

The records document Mary's childhood and her relationship with her unfaithful husband and her family. Although the collection does not contain many references to Mary's work or publications it provides an interesting insight into the private and domestic life of one of the key female figures in the development of interior design.

The archive consists of transcripts of interviews with members of the Women Against Pit Closures group collected by Betty Heathfield, relating to their involvement in the 1984-1985 miners' strike. The archive consists of material collected by Betty Jerman for a planned book on baby-abduction by women (never published). Jerman became interested in the subject through the case of Pauline Jones (who abducted baby Denise Weller in 1971, and was sentenced to 3 years in Holloway prison) and wrote a series of articles about the case for The Guardian that led to a 'Free Pauline Jones' campaign.

The archive consists of material relating to a memoir of Harriet Shaw Weaver that Lidderdale was invited by the family to write in 1962. These two files contain Lidderdale's correspondence with the authors Margaret Storm Jameson and Dame Rebecca West, whom she approached while writing the book. Jameson recollected only an invitation in 1914 from Harriet Shaw Weaver to work for the magazine 'The Egoist' (which she could not accept) and brief contact with the author and publisher Dora Marsden. West was more closely involved with Dora, as she worked on the latter's journal 'The New Freewoman' and introduced to it various contributions of literary fame, including Ezra Pound and Richard Aldington. On receiving Miss Lidderdale's drafts of the relevant sections of her memoir, Dame Rebecca sent detailed comments and suggestions which provide interesting information on Dora Marsden and various contributors to 'The New Freewoman'. Included with her papers is a photograph of Dame Rebecca taken in about 1935 and presented to Miss Lidderdale in 1969.
