Gibson's cases deal with a range of subjects, including the conduct of international and local trade (especially credit), industry and working practices, the value of particular artisan processes and seamen's wages. The papers also reveal the relations between client and attorney, the conduct of cases, and fees charged.

Records of Southwark Compter, also known as Borough Compter, 1608-1842, including lists of prisoners, charge books, warrants for arrest, accounts of deliveries of bread and meat and various administrative papers. Also papers relating to the revived magistracy in Southwark, 1814, when it was decided that one of the Aldermen who had passed the chair would sit daily for justiciary business, receiving an annual salary and assisted by a clerk, until c 1840.

Records relating to the London prison system, 1487-1975. Prisons mentioned include the Houses of Correction at Westminster and Cold Bath Fields, the Debtor's Prison, Newgate, Ludgate, King's Bench, Fleet, Marshalsea, Clerkenwell, Bridewell, Holloway, Whitecross Street, Middlesex and Wandsworth as well as various Compters.

Thames Conservancy records include papers relating to the City's claim to the Thames soil, shores and bed; correspondence; reports; maps; acts and bills for the Conservancy of the River Thames; papers regarding the boundary stones marking the limits of the jurisdiction of the City of London; minutes of the Navigation Committee and Parliamentary papers.

Records of the Royal Courts include plea rolls, escheat rolls, inquisitions post mortem, writs, proceedings, and articles relating to the history of the court, while the records of the Possessory Assizes, comprising the Assizes of Novel Disseisin, Fresh Force and Mort d'Ancestor, include rolls of assizes and precedent books.

Records of the Civic courts (Nuisance Assizes, Court of Judicature, Borough Court of Record, Southwark) include pleas of nuisance, Southwark fire decrees and court books.

Records of the Southwark Coroner's Court, 1837-1932, including inquests, inquisitions, depositions and no inquest volumes (if a death was reported to the Coroner upon which he decided no inquest was necessary, then a report with details of the death was bound in the series of volumes of No Inquest Cases).

Records relating to manors, 1539-1985, including the manors of East Burnham (Burnham Beeches); Finsbury Manor; Isleworth Manor and especially Southwark Manors (Kings Manor, Guildable Manor and Great Liberty Manor). Papers include deeds, surveys, court baron minute book, court leet minute books, verdicts and presentments of leet juries and proceedings of courts leet.

The court leet was a special court of record which the lords of certain manors were empowered by charter or prescription to hold. The Recorder held the Court Leet on behalf of the Corporation as lords of the manor. The legal jurisdiction of courts leet was abolished in 1977.

Records of the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium, 1852-2000. Mainly administrative records including the Registers of Private (Purchased) Graves 1856-1949 (each volume is indexed). Some people purchased graves as they were needed, and in these cases, the date of burial corresponds fairly closely with the date of purchase of the grave. However, other people purchased a grave decades before they died, so the date of burial is not always enough to enable the registers to be searched. It is often useful to refer to the burial registers first (still held by the Cemetery), to obtain the grave number and grant number, which can then be used to locate the relevant Register of Private (Purchased) Graves in CLRO. These registers record who purchased each grave and when, who was interred in it (name, age and date of burial, for each person buried in that particular grave), and the numbers of the grave, grave grant, square, plot and register entry.

Records of the City of London School for boys, 1834 - 1998, including prospectuses, inspection reports, rules and regulations, scholarships and prizes, trust deeds, financial accounts, registers of pupils, lists of honours and distinctions gained by pupils, school magazines, Acts of Parliament relating to the school and some notes on the history of the school.

This collection contains City of London School for Girls administrative records (1895-2005), various printed material including school magazines (1890s-2006), visual material and artefacts including a large collection of photographs depicting pupils and staff (1890s-2004), records of societies connected to the school (such as Girl Guides and material of the City of London Old Girls' Association).

Records of particular interest are the Leaver's Service programmes which provide a fairly comprehensive list of pupils who attended the school. Also of interest are the prize giving programmes which are also useful for researching pupils and school magazines which provide detailed information on school activities, events and other developments.

Records of The City of London Freemen's School, 1849-1996, including rules and regulations; prospectuses; reports of the Headmaster to the Freemen's School Committee; examination papers; papers relating to the purchase of Ashtead Park, Surrey; papers relating to scholarship funds; cash books; staff applications and appointments; pupil application forms; papers relating to apprenticeships; papers relating to prize-giving ceremonies; school magazines; photographs and bonds. The bonds relate to a rule that before a child could be admitted to the school, an engagement had to be entered into by 2 respectable householders resident in or near London to receive the child when removed from the school (on completion of the period of education or on account of misconduct etc) or in case of death to defray the funeral expenses.

Records of The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, 1880-1986, including financial accounts; prospectuses; concert programmes, including concerts given by the Guildhall Orchestral Society; scrapbooks including newspaper cuttings and photographs concerning the school's activities, recitals, prize-givings, new staff, successes of pupils past and present and so on; and publications relating to the history of the school.

Papers of the Morgan family, 1891-1963, comprising papers, reports, photographs, music and other personal memorabilia of Robert Orlando Morgan, R.G.S.M., Professor of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama 1887-1951, of his second son, Cyril Douglas Morgan, Principal Clerk to the Chamberlain of London 1946-1958 and of his son, M.D. Morgan, the depositor of these documents.

Papers of Dorothea (or Dorothy) Crompton, pupil at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, 1913-1924. The collection, consisting of concert programmes, advertising posters, professors' reports and correspondence, had been found at the School and had been used in an exhibition there. The exhibition, entitled "Who was Dorothea Crompton?", had been mounted to try to establish some details about Crompton as nothing was known about her. As far as can be gathered, no information about Dorothea Crompton was produced as a result of the exhibition.
