Records of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, 1760-2002. The archive is central to the history of the modern Jewish community in Britain. It covers virtually every facet of Jewish life in Britain in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - assimiliation, education, political emancipation, Shechita, anti-Semitism. The archive is particularly interesting on the conditions of Jewry outside the UK - there is a lot of information, for example, on the rise of fascism in mainland Europe in the 1930s and the Holocaust.

The collection covers Lord Moran's life and career. It includes papers (committee minutes, correspondence, notes, printed material, ephemera, articles, parliamentary papers, etc.) re his position as Dean of St Mary's Hospital Medical School, 1920-1945; as President at the Royal College of Physicians, 1941-1950; his role in negotiations over the establishment and structure of the NHS, 1942-1960; as Chairman of the Awards Committee, 1948-1962. His other professional activities are covered in general correspondence files; a series of medical records, including material on Winston Churchill, 1944-1965; subject files relating to his role on various government, educational and medical bodies, including the commission to determine whether Rudolph Hess was mentally fit to stand trial in 1945. The collection includes drafts and papers re Anatomy of Courage (including photocopies of his World War I army notebooks), and Winston Churchill: Struggle for Survival. There is also a section of unpublished writings and speeches, 1921-1970. Papers consulted by Professor Lovell in Australia while writing his biography of Lord Moran, were returned in two batches, the first in April 1990, when he helped with the initial sorting and listing of the papers, and the second in April 1991. Some of these papers have been returned to the main body of the collection, however most have been kept in a separate section in the list (section L). The collection also contains personal and family material, photographs, press cuttings and ephemera, and a section comprising personal and professional papers of Lord Moran's wife Dorothy, Lady Moran (d.1983).

Correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, offprints and articles of Dr Milos Sekulich, 1924-1984 (mainly 1941-1984). The material relates mainly to Yugoslavia and Yugoslav, specifically Serbian emigre politics. Some of the major themes of the material are the conflict within the Serbian Orthodox Church in Britain caused by accusations of communist influence, attempts at commemorating and rehabilitating the memory of General Draza Mihailovic, attempts to publicise the Croatian Ustashi atrocities against Serbs and libel cases brought by Sekulich against other members of the Serbian emigre community. There is a small amount of material on his medical interest and research into tuberculosis.

Papers of Joseph Langland, undated, comprise copies of his poems about Buchenwald and Hiroshima entitled 'Buchenwald near Weimar'; 'The Lotus Song'; 'A Hiroshima Lullaby' and a copy of an entry from Who's Who in America.

The papers in this collection consist chiefly of photographs of the work of the sculptor and medallion maker, Fred Kormis, 1913-1987. In addition there is some correspondence mostly relating to his work, including letters of thanks from Lord Mountbatten, Menachem Begin and members of the British War Cabinet during the Second World War, for whom Kormis sculpted medallions.

Fate of Hungarian Jewry collection, 1943-1994, notably comprises a copy memorandum to Secretary Morgenthau, (copy of original which dates from 1943) (1151/1), concerning his request to review developments regarding the World Jewish Congress' programme for the evacuation of Jews from Romania and France; copy of a letter from JW Pehle, Executive Director of the War Refugees Board, to J. Mcloy, Assistant Secretary of War, (copy of original which dates from 1944) (1151/4), enclosing copies of eye-witness accounts of Auschwitz and Birkenau received from the Board's special representative in Bern recommending the bombing of the camps; memorandum to the Assistant Secretary of War regarding suggestion of bombing camps, setting out 5 reasons why this is not recommended (copy of original which dates from 1944) (1151/5) and a copy of a transcript of a secret memorandum from the American Legation in Stockholm to the Secretary of State, Washington, regarding gassing and deportation of Hungarian Jews (copy of original which dates from 1944) (1151/6).

Material, 1886-1994, comprising copies of published and unpublished documents including a dedication to the mayor of Koritschen by members of the Jewish community; article by Eric Walters-Kohn, March 1994 on his experiences in Dachau and Buchenwald; copy of an article by Eric Walters-Kohn from Die Gemeinde, (the official paper of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien), 15 March 1994, regarding the life of Dr Louis Poborski, a distant relative, and formerly close friend of Theodor Herzl.

Order from the Führer des SS Oberabschnittes Österreich, Vienna, to all SS units referring to an order of Gauleiter Buerckel that all section leaders were to be responsible for preventing actions by the SS against Jews and that if measures have to be taken against Jews these would be carried out by the authorities and the Gestapo, 5 April 1938.

Papers of Hinda Elsztajn, 1956, comprise an interview transcript of Hinda Elsztajn, former inmate at Auschwitz and victim of Dr. Carl Clauberg, one of the infamous physicians of Block 10 who experimented on prisoners.
