Late 14th century manuscript volume: Benediktinerregel (Rule of St Benedict), divided into 73 chapters (numbered in error as 72), each chapter consisting of a passage in Latin followed by the German translation. There are some ink sketches of monks (ff 6r, 37v, 38r, 82v) and one sketch of an abbot standing before a table (f 71r). The front cover bears a strip of parchment with the inscription: 'Regula Benedictj / Jn Theutunice'. The volume also contains a list of monastic orders with descriptions of the characteristic dress of each order (ff 94r-94v); the text of regulations, in Latin, containing many quotations from the Latin Rule (f 95r-97ra); and the later inscription 'Jste liber p[er]tinet ad mo[na]ste[r]iu[m] ot[e]nbure[n] (this book belongs to the monastery of Ottobeuren) (f 104r).

Most of those concerned with the founding of the Society as a project in self-education were also involved in the founding of the new University of London (now University College London) and some, like Augustus De Morgan and George Long, actually taught there. There is also considerable information on the work of publishers, illustrators, engravers and booksellers and on writers, whether already established authorities in their field or young hopefuls, like G H Lewes, who sought to establish themselves through the Society's patronage.

Also contains a smaller volume of material relating to the planning and execution of Hinchliffe's work, including pages from a notebook of illustrated performance plans, annotated scripts, correspondence, and contracts. The papers of John Turner MacGregor-Morris mainly relate to his work as Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at East London College (later Queen Mary College). This sub-fonds contains the records of the Westfield Trust, 1908-2010.

It comprises records relating to the pre-history and establishment of the Trust, 1979-2000, including the foundation of the Trust, and the Westfield College Development Trust; minutes and associated papers of Westfield Trust meetings, 1989-2009; annual reports and financial statements, 1988-2009; records relating to the endowments and bequests of the Trust, 1908-2004, including bequests and legacies, use of proceeds of sale, and Agreement Funds; minutes, associated papers, and correspondence of the Westfield Trust Investment Committee, 1989-2009; records relating to the tangible assets of the Trust, 1989-2004, including furniture, paintings, silverware, and property; records relating to projects, prizes, and scholarships funded by the Trust, 1965-1993, including the Ruth Owen Travelling Scholarship, Westfield Trust Prizes, and research studentships; and administrative correspondence, 1989-2010, including representation on the College Council, consultation mechanisms, and the decision to dissolve the Trust.

Papers of writer, translator, artist and musician Wolfgang Held (1933-2016).

Contains personal papers including material relating to Held’s time at school and university, diaries, letters, photographs, slides, magazines, medals, an astrology chart, letters of condolence and address books.

Family papers relating to his father Fritz Held and his ancestry, as well as family photographs, school books, certificates and related documents.

Work papers including notebooks, working notes and texts, research material, unpublished writing, published prose, papers relating to published works, poetry and poetry translations, papers relating to Raven Studio, prizes and awards, files of notes and notebooks relating to his translation work, radio commentaries and piano recitals.

Audio recordings (compact discs and cassette tapes) of Held's literary works and piano recitals for German radio stations.

Letters of William Temple, later Archbishop of Canterbury, to John Leofric Stocks, [1901-1906], written whilst studying in Europe and considering his future career, discussing the failings of the contemporary church due to a lack of intellectual leadership, his studies, unsure of taking holy orders, doctrine, including the divinity of Christ and questioning of the virgin birth, opinions of artistic works seen in Europe, preference for Botticelli, discussion about honesty, disappointment at being refused as a candidate for ordination by the Bishop of Oxford, [1905-1906]; letters concerning the progress of publication of his Gefford lectures, 1934; comments on an article by Stocks and his opinion on heresy and orthodoxy, 1935; congratulations on Stocks' appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Liverpool University, 1936.

Handbills, leaflets, posters and publications concerning anti-vivisection, factory farming, bloodsports and general animal rights campaigns produced by a variety of organisations, including the Animal Liberation Front, Hunt Saboteurs Association, Manchester Meat-Free Zone Campaign, Compassion in World Farming, the National Anti-Vivisection Society, Manchester Animal Protection Group, Chicken's Lib, Vale and Valleys Hunt Saboteurs, the Vegan Action Group, League Against Cruel Sports, Earth Rights, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, CAMPRAS (Campaign to Promote Respect for Animals in Schools), Animal Aid and the Bradford Animal Rights Group (1982 - 1996).

Papers and correspondence of the Anti-Racist Alliance, [1990-1994].

Original papers and publications relating to Bernie Grant's personal life and his public role as a Member of Parliament including the papers of organisations with which he was involved such as the African Reparations Movement, [1963-2000]. The collection comprises correspondence notably relating to the Gulf War, 1990-1991, black businesses, ministerial and general correspondence; personal papers, including tributes and condolences, biographical files and legal papers; speeches; files on a range of subjects including on international affairs such as colonialism, racial incident dossiers, Haringey Council business, trade union papers, press files, on campaigns such as the Broadwater Farm riots, the 'Tottenham Three' and the case of Joy Gardner, Parliamentary and Labour Party affairs and constituency case files; published reference material; ephemera, notably campaign fliers and invitations; artefacts and clothing including African robes such as the ones worn to the State Opening of Parliament, campaign placards, posters and awards/plaques; photographs; audio and video recordings of interviews and speeches, television and radio appearances.
