MSS. 5958-5963 comprise journals of A B Barton, mainly written while he was a medical officer in the service of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P & O), 1853-1858. They cover his journeys between Bombay, Singapore and Hong Kong; to the Crimea; and to the Far East. They include descriptions of the progress of the Chinese rebellion (MS. 5959), tending to and transporting the sick and wounded from Balaclava to Scutari (MS. 5960), and his shipwreck off the coast of Ceylon, together with General Henry Havelock, on the steamer Erin (MS. 5962). Some are manuscript or typescript copies. MSS. 7589-7594 comprise journals and sketches mainly relating to the Yangtse expedition, led by Captain Thomas W Blakiston, on which Barton served as a medical officer, 1861. One journal, MS. 7591, also records the end of the expedition and Barton's journey to Ceylon via Singapore, with entries on hunting expeditions in Ceylon. The journals are all fair copies. MS. 7592 comprises a narrative of the Yangste expedition read by Barton to the Royal Geographical Society, based on his journals. MS. 7593 is a series of mainly topographical illustrations relating to the expedition, comprising sketches by Barton, plus photographs and engravings based on other sketches by Barton, some of which were used to illustrate Five Months on the Yang-Tse by Thomas W Blakiston (London: John Murray, 1862). MS. 7594 comprises later papers of Brian M Gould relating to Barton and his journals, 1967 and n.d.

The collection comprises correspondence, writings and administrative material relating to the Jenner family, particularly Dr. Edward Jenner (pioneer of smallpox vaccination) and the associated Black and Davies families, 1680-1877.

The material on Edward Jenner includes papers relating to organisations set up in the aftermath of his vaccination discoveries: the National Vaccine Establishment, the Royal Jennerian Society and the London Vaccine Institution.

The second volume contains notes of lectures, extracts, receipts, and some case-records at Guy's Hospital, by the same hand. Illustrated by a few rough pen-drawn anatomical figures, etc. The first volume is lettered on the spine: 'Anatomical Notes', and 'End of the first volume' is written on the last leaf of text. The second volume is lettered 'Notes.', and appears to be a continuation of another volume now missing. Some of the notes in this second volume are dated January and February 1805. The Pamphlet Collection consists of printed material less than 60 pages in length and includes government policies, reports, annual reports and campaigning material, primary law, including Bills and Acts. The subject material of the collection reflects and enriches the wide range of topics held elsewhere in the Women's Library.The topics covered include: English fiction, children's stories, poetry, women's organisations, feminism, role of women in society - UK and abroad, nursing, sex discrimination law, divorce law, employment, occupations, careers, equal opportunities, labour law, pension law, social security, taxation, housing, health, pregnancy, abortion, birth control, domestic violence, mothers, one-parent families, children, family life, housekeeping, religion, ordination, arts, costume, suffrage. Organisations include Equal Opportunities Commission, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital, National Union of Suffragettes, National Society for Women's Suffrage, US Women's Bureau, American National Red Cross, Union of Jewish Women, National Union of Townswomen's Guilds, National Federation of Women's Institutes, Fawcett Society, National Council for the Unmarried Mother and Her Child, British Federation of University Women, Association of University Women Teachers, Divorce Law Reform Union. Most of the material is in English, but there are also pamphlets in other languages, such as Italian, German and French.The pamphlets are arranged in two sections - one for standard sized pamphlets and one for oversized pamphlets.

The 'UDC Pamphlet Collection' [Universal Dewey Decimal Classification]: In addition to the main Pamphlet Collection is the 'UDC Pamphlet Collection.' The UDC collection was the first pamphlet collection created by the Library and consists of approximately 10,000 pamphlets dating from mid nineteenth to mid twentieth centuries, covering all subjects. As the collection was gradually acquired during the Library's first 20 years of life, it was arranged by subject, using the Universal Decimal Classification system. The pamphlets were primarily deposited by organisations and individuals, although some purchases were made. There is a finding aid kept with the collection but the collection was never catalogued and therefore remained a hidden resource within the Library for more than 80 years. Unsurprisingly other libraries did not collect most of these pamphlets. In 2007 as part of a cataloguing funding bid preliminary sampling of the collection against Copac (the merged online catalogues of 24 university research libraries in the UK, plus the British Library and the National Library of Scotland) found that over 60% of the UDC pamphlets were not listed in these major research collections. This is a very significant level of unique printed material.Cataloguing of the UDC collection started in 2007 and as the pamphlets are catatogued, they are transferred to the main pamphlet collection described above. As at 2009 the collection was partially catalogued and The Library was seeking additional funds to complete the project.

Papers of Augusta Bönten, 1882-1907, including two scrapbooks containing cuttings and printed ephemera relating to the musical activities and death of her father Sir August Manns, 1882-1907; her commonplace book, containing mainly late 19th century German poety; her Memoirs, proof copy published posthumously by her daughter Louise Bönten [1930]; Catalogue of the principal instrumental and vocal works performed at the Saturday concerts from 1855 to 1876 (Charles Dickens and Evans, Crystal Palace, 1876), with inscription by Manns, 1877; Catalogue of the principal instrumental and choral works performed at the Crystal Palace Saturday concerts from October 1855 to May 1895 (F M Evans, Crystal Palace, [1895]), two copies, one with numerous annotations [some by Manns]; The Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra, twenty-one years of municipal music, 1893-1914 by Hadley Watkins (Bournemouth, 1914). Letters (8) to Augusta Bönten, 1913-1914, mostly relating to her father's work: correspondents include Dr Frederick G Shinn, in regard to his lecture 'What the Crystal Palace has done for music in England' and Sophie Campbell, in regard to the recent death of her husband Sir Francis Joseph Campbell, former Principal of the Royal Normal College for the Blind.

The collection comprises copies of printed material, 1907-1984, including history of Perry and Co, builders and contractors, with list of completed building projects, photographs of founders, and notes on the company's projects including St Thomas's Hospital, London, Tower Bridge and numerous Underground railway stations including Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus, [1907]; copy of article on the Perry & Co employee, Sir Herbert Henry Bartlett, by Sir Basil Bartlett, printed in David Jeremy ed., Dictionary of business biography (London, 1984); manuscript pedigree describing the relationship between the Robinson and Bartlett families, to whom the donor was related, [2000].
