Papers of Sidney Joseph Madge, [1920-1929], comprising notes and transcripts of seventeenth century material relating to the disposal of Crown lands during the Commonwealth period (1649-1658) collated by Madge for his DSc Thesis presented at the London School of Economics in 1929, and published in 1938 as The Domesday of Crown lands: a study of the legislation, surveys and sales of Royal estates under the Commonwealth (Routledge and Sons, London, 1938). The material largely consists of notes and transcripts of Parliamentary Surveys and Parliamentary Land Sales.

This collection covers both the public and the private aspects of Violet Markham. The documents relating to her public works cover her involvement in the National Relief Fund, the Central Committee on Women's Employment, the Women's Section of the National Service Department, the Unemployment and Assistance Board, the Trade Board for the Cutlery Industry, and the Voluntary Social Services Enquiry, along with material on the issue of domestic service. Material created during the compilation of the New survey of London life and labour (London, 1930-1935) undertaken by the LSE in 1930-1934, including working papers of the survey such as minutes of the Steering Committee, correspondence of Sir Hubert Llewellyn Smith (Director) with Sydney Frank Markham (Secretary), correspondence with publishers, specimens of street survey cards and enquiry records, and drafts; background material, including census statistics, subject files and information on London organisations, labour and history; survey records, consisting of index cards, each containing information concerning one household and giving information on the age, occupation, place of work, travel and earnings of each wage earner. Political papers of Stanley Orme, 1974-2004, comprise papers relating to his work as a government minister in the Northern Ireland Office and subsequently the Department for Health and Social Security (1974-1979), Labour Party Opposition Spokesman on Trade and Industry (1979-1983), Energy (1983-1987), and Chairman of the Parliamentary Labour Party (1987-1992). Papers from Orme's period in the Northern Ireland Office are related mainly to his work on industrial democracy in Harland and Wolff shipyard, and also contains reports of visits to USA to meet politicians to discuss Northern Ireland politics. Section 2 contains many articles and speeches by Orme relating to health and social security. Section 3 consists mainly in correspondence, and includes discussions of industrial policy and unemployment. Orme's role as Opposition Spokesman on Energy has been divided into two sections. Section 4 covers the general policy area of energy, dealing with such issues as fuel poverty, nuclear power, and industrial relations in the energy sector, whilst Section 5 is devoted to the significant amount of material relating to the 1984-1985 miners' strike. Section 6 contains material from Orme's Chairmanship of the Parliamentary Labour Party, and Section 7 contains articles and speeches written throughout Orme's career.

Material relating to the documentary film series Playing the China Card: Nixon and Mao, 1999, concerning the relationship between the USA and China since the end of World War Two, made by Brook Lapping Productions Ltd and broadcast on Channel 4 as two programmes in 1999, including interview transcripts with US, Chinese and Russian contributors, notably William Frank Buckley, General Alexander Meigs Haig, Henry Alfred Kissinger, James Addison Baker III, General Brent Scowcroft, Anatoly Fedorovich Dobrynin, Fang Lizhi and Ji Chaozhu; complete post-production scripts of the two programmes; a file of questions put to participants for filmed interviews; transcripts from sections of David Frost's interview with President Richard Nixon (1977), relating to US relations with China; books, articles, essays and pamphlets used as background material for the series; background documents, including transcripts of US government archive material, mainly relating to the Nixon administration, and pre-publication extracts from The Kissinger Transcripts (National Security Archives, 1999) by William Burr.
