Records of Collyer Bristow and Company, solicitors, 1781-1975. The catalogue has been divided into three sections. The first consists of records dealing with the administration of the company, and includes day books and clerks' time books; the second section deals with the financial records of the firm.

The third, and largest, section is concerned with clients' administration. Records in this section include lists of clients' papers held or returned by the firm, and registers recording probate, insurance, property transactions and periodical payments made to a third party on behalf of the client.

Papers, 1645-1899, collected by the solicitors in the course of their work, comprising deeds, leases, abstract of title and bargain and sales relating to properties in Edmonton, Acton, Saint Pancras, Stepney, Holborn, Islington, Ealing, Heston, Brentford, Isleworth, Twickenham, Hounslow and Hanwell. An Account of the General Nursery or Colledg of Infants set up by the Justices of the Peace for the County of Middlesex containing a list of rules and regulations, proposals for education and extracts from orders of Sessions concerning establishment, published 1686.

Also photocopy of the presentment of the Grand Jury for Middlesex approving the work of the General Nursery, with extracts from orders of Sessions concerning refusal of St. Clement's Danes parish to participate in scheme, and general remarks on benefits of such an establishment.

Records of Coleman Street Ward, Corporation of London. The records comprise wardmote minutes, rate assessments and accounts, and lists of jurymen and inquest men. They were catalogued by members of Guildhall Library staff at various dates.

Correspondence, 1905-1984, of Maurice Cole, pianist and former student of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, relating to musical matters, particularly concert performances.

Records of the Cogers' Society debating and discussion club, comprising minutes, rules, and miscellaneous papers and correspondence.

Diaries of Charles Frederick de Coetlogon, covering the years 1817, 1818, 1822, 1823, 1826, 1827, 1828, 1831, 1832, 1833-34 in part, and 1835. They are pocket sized and contain miscellaneous printed information. Each double page is divided into journal and account sections, and de Coetlogon meticulously records his personal accounts in the latter. His income is drawn from annuities and he constantly rebukes himself for living beyond his means. The accounts present a detailed picture of the price of food (fish sauce @ 2/-), domestic items (pins @ 3d.), servant's wages (£14. 14s. per annum), entertainment (opera ticket @ 8s. 6d.), and incidental expenses (hair cutting @ 1s. 6d.).

Records of the Codd family, including journal/diary of Harrison Gordon Codd, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Middlesex, 1824-40, recording his involvement in society and government, giving for example, his thoughts on the Poor Law Enquiry 1832, and his friendship with Nassau Senior, and details of family life and events (including a list of his children and their dates of birth on page one); journal/diary of Sophy Shirley Codd, daughter of Harrison Gordon Codd, 1835-36, giving details of daily employment (reading, writing, drawing, singing) and places visited (including Regent's Park Zoological Gardens and several picture exhibitions), and describing the death of her sister, Emma; and journal/diary of Frances Anne Codd, daughter of Harrison Gordon Codd, 1840-1879, recording her daily routine but placing emphasis on visits and outings, including pressed flowers and numerous prints of places visited. Also some Codd family papers including obituaries, correspondence, photographs, event programmes and family history.

Marriage settlement between James Cockburn of Bishopsgate Street, merchant, and Madeline Dunlop of Russell Square, concerning property in the City of London and St Johns Wood, Marylebone, 1829.

Papers of the Coal Meters' Committee, including minutes, letter books, cash books, ledgers, books of notices and orders, ships' registers, records of coal exports and imports, and papers relating to the reorganisation of the Coal Meters' Office.

The records of the Coal Meters' Benefit Society, the Coal Meters' Provident Club and the Coal Meters' Office Protection Branch also form part of the archives of the Coal Meters' Committee. The Benefit Society records consist chiefly of minutes, resolutions touching amendments to the constitution, statements of account and correspondence relating to the Coal Meters' Benefit Society and Widows' Aid Fund. The Provident Club records contain a copy of rules, nomination form counterfoil book and account book. The Protection Branch records consist of annual reports, ledger accounts and cash books.

Records of the Coal Factors' Society, beginning in 1761 and consisting of minutes, attendance books, letter books, rules and regulations, an account of market dues at the Coal Exchange, financial records including ledgers and cash books, factors' day and entry books, factors' and meters' postage books, an alphabetical list of ships giving gross and net tonnage, lists of named ships with total monthly cost to each factor, comparative lists of the highest prices of best house coals taken for each, contracts made with various persons for the supply of barges, beams, weights, a Tilbury signal code book, and newspaper cuttings. There are no records for the period 1790-1831.

The collection also includes a register of names, destinations and owners of ships, and weight of coal shipped from Newcastle, 1702-4, Ms 30689, which had been found amongst the archives of the Coal Factors' Society and Coal Meters' Committee. It predates both bodies and appears to have been collected as a curio.

Records of the Clitherow family, including account books of merchant James Clitherow, 1642-1682, (ref ACC/1360/435-440) giving details of his investment in voyages to the East Indies and elsewhere, his loans to relatives and others, and the deposits of money which he held on their account, as well as his purchase of Boston Manor, New Brentford, in 1670 and other lands.

Papers relating to properties acquired by Christopher Clitherow, including the 1696 exchange of the manors of Nether and Upper Bilsington in Kent with Thomas Rider for Pinners Hall and other property in Austin Friars in the City of London (see ACC/1360/017-019 and ACC/1360/153/1-2); the 1720 sale of the Langham estate (see ACC/1360/444) and a 1723 detailed description and valuation of Boston Manor and other property (ACC/1360/444). Also included are Christopher Clitherow's personal financial accounts.

Papers of James Clitherow {III} relating to the bequest of Martha Heddin of property in Twickenham, Isleworth and Heston. A substantial proportion of the Clitherow papers relate to his activities on behalf of others, together with those of his son Colonel James Clitherow, and also of a few trusts administered by his father, James {II}, grandfather, Christopher, brother Christopher, and nephew, General John Clitherow. For James Clitherow's accounts of the complex Kemeys trust see ACC/1360/666 and ACC/1360/628.

Papers of Colonel James Clitherow {IV} including title deeds of Sir Thomas Ingram's Almshouses in Isleworth (ref ACC/1360/656/1-18), of which Colonel Clitherow was treasurer, being largely responsible for raising a subscription for their repair in 1816. They also include extensive correspondence, accounts, vouchers, and other papers relating to the Royal Westminster Regiment of the Middlesex Militia 1796-1826 (ref ACC/1360/736-778) of which James Clitherow {IV} was Colonel.

Papers of the Reverend William James Stracey-Clitherow. His account books, diary, correspondence and papers relate mainly to affairs in Norfolk, where he was Vicar of Buxton and Rector of Skeyton and Oxnead from 1855 to 1888, as well as managing both his own and his brother's property in Norfolk.

Amongst the Clitherow papers are the letters and telegrams sent by Thomas Gurney to his mother and stepfather while he was serving overseas in the South African War 1901-1902 (ACC/1360/555/1-173) and in the 1st World War 1917-1919 (ACC/1360/556/1-37).

Records of Clerkenwell Magistrates' Court, 1893-1987, including court registers; registers of adoption applications; probation order applications; means enquiries; court minutes recording charges and summons; court note books; probation orders; domestic proceedings including matrimonial cases and bastardy orders; registers of endorsements of driving licences; cash books; gaoler's index of defendants and clerk's papers.

Court registers record the date of the hearing, the name of the informant or complainant (often the police), the name of the defendant, a brief note of the offence and the decision of the magistrate. Court minute books or notebooks are rough notes of the proceedings recording the gist of the evidence given.

Domestic proceedings: A married woman under the provisions of the Summary Jurisdiction (Married Women) Act 1895 and subsequent Acts could go to a magistrates' court and apply for orders which in certain circumstances would enable her to separate from her husband, have custody of any children and receive maintenance from him. Under the Poor Law Amendment Act 1844 a mother expecting a bastard child or who had given birth to one could obtain a maintenance order against the putative father.

The papers of Abbott, Clayton and Morris consist of the business and family records of two generations and form one of the earliest and largest extant collections of Stuart-era financial records. There are also related records of Sir George Jeffreys, 1st Baron Jeffreys of Wem (1648-1689), a close personal friend of Robert Clayton. (Clayton was appointed by Jeffreys as a trustee of his family settlement drawn up in 1689.) Jeffreys was Common Serjeant (1671-1678) and Recorder of London (1678-1680).

This is a collection of forty one letters from Lady Mary Clarke and one letter from her daughter Anne to their legal adviser Samuel Joynes, and four draft letters from Joynes to Lady Clarke.

Diaries of Frederic Sydenham Clarke, employee of the Borneo Company. The entries are mostly accounts of social activities and of letters received from family and friends in England. There are very few references to his work.

The records demonstrate how the Centre was run, and how relations deteriorated between the Centre and its parent, the Inner London Education Authority. The papers of the campaigns which were run from the Centre are particularly valuable for research on local issues in Hackney, as well as wider activism in the Black community. The photographs, slides and negatives are also a strong element in the collection, documenting the Centre's activities and related campaigns such as Colin Roach demonstrations and support given to the Knight family.

Records containing personal information concerning Jean Tate and Anslem Samuel are available for general access as those individuals have requested this access rule during their lifetimes. Records containing personal information relating to staff are not available for general access and have been restricted for 84 years from the last date in each file. Records containing personal information relating to members (who were aged 12 years and above) are not available for general access and have been restricted for 88 years from the last date in each file.

Records relating to Clapham Labour Party. The collection includes minutes of Clapham Labour Party's executive committee and general management committee as well as information on borough and LCC elections. The correspondence referring to Dr MacGregor Reid (President of the Clapham Labour Party in 1926, d 1946), his alleged attack on other Labour and Socialist Parties and ensuing enquiry is especially engaging. However, the records also mention the Battersea Division and contain correspondence of the London Labour Party and national Labour Party. Of particular note are the official Labour Party posters reflecting policy on topics such as farming, coal strikes and the family and its publications about issues such as refugees, Soviet wartime policy and Palestinians in Israel.
