Records of Samuel Fisher, local government officer. The collection reflects the range of his interests and involvement in public life. There are a large number of photographs and press cuttings as well as some family papers. The photographs show Fisher's activities as Mayor and as Chairman of the London Labour Mayors Association, and include pictures of visits to Geneva, Australia, Gibraltar, New York, Israel and Belfast.

Lecture notes and other papers of Sir Hermann Gollancz including notes from lectures on the philosophy of mind, given by George Croom Robertson (1842-1892) at University College, London; notes from lectures at University College, London, comprising lectures on applied mathematics by William Kingdom Clifford (1845-1879), and on physics by George Carey Foster. Also included are notes on the history of the Jews in Sicily; notes on aspects of Jewish religion and theology. Signature inside the front cover, 'H Gollancz, Jews' College' and medical prescriptions written for Sir Hermann Gollancz, and miscellaneous medical ephemera.

Records of The Home for Aged Jews (later called Nightingale House and later Nightingale). This collection contains a wide range of records of the Home including minutes, a good set of annual reports, accounts, property and building records, printed material, photographs, film and videos. The archive gives detailed coverage of changes in care work and the life of residents and staff working at Nightingale. Of particular interest are the residents' admission book (1914-1933) and official 'diary' of events (1916) which are a good resource for tracing residents admitted to the Home, and the annual reports (1896-1997) which cover all aspects of the work of the Home including the early introduction of Occupational Therapy and other facilties for residents.

The majority of the archive relates to the later half of the 20th century, although there is a small survival of records from the early period of the Home and its former Charities (from 1879) before its move to Wandsworth in 1907. The minutes include a minute book of the Wandsworth Hospital Group's Jewish Home of Rest, Birchlands Avenue, Wandsworth. The property deeds include deeds of the Farmiloe family, lead and glass merchants of Rochester Row, Westminster.

Typescript text in German entitled 'Beziehungen zu Nichtariern' ('Relationships with non-Aryans'), dated Jul 1945, relating to the treatment of Otto Hahn's Jewish friends and colleagues in Germany, 1933-1945. Also a copy of his biography, Mein Leben (Bruckmann, Munich, Germany, 1968).

The archive consists of a photocopy of a typescript autobiographical essay by Kay Pilpel entitled, 'Growing up in the 1930s' in which she describes her family background, the Jewish community in London from the 1890s onwards, and her daily life as a child and schoolgirl at Tottenham High School for Girls, including her experience of evacuation during the Second World War. The essay is illustrated with family trees and includes copies of family photographs.

The Bing family papers, 1843-2004, comprise four separate deposits; copy letters from Mathilde (Tilly) Bing in a detention hostel in Berlin prior to deportation to the East to von Pappritz, 1943 (867/1); copy papers regarding the fine incurred by Clara Bing for not including the name Sara, depicting her Jewish ethnicity, 1939 (867/2); copy correspondence and papers of Heinz Bing, 1843-1945 (867/3) and various transcript correspondence including a letter from Fritz Mecklenburg to Heinz Bing, 2004 (867/4).

Typescript reports by Kurt Sabatsky about individual Nazis and accounts of incidents of Jewish persecution including a report of a meeting between Hermann Göring, then head of the Gestapo, and Brodnitz and Alfred Wiener, representatives of the Centralverein Deutscher Staatsbürger Jüdischen Glaubens, seeking reassurance that Jews would not be victimised; report on Buchenwald concentration camp and account of Sabatsky's dealings with Erich Koch, formerly Gauleiter of Ostpreussen.

Papers of Frank Collins, 1905-1986, comprise personal documents of Frank Collins, including the birth certificate of his wife Margarethe Spitzer, 1905; naturalisation certificate (896/5) and a number of photographs.

Papers of the Kobylinski family, 1940-1945 and 1990, comprise correspondence between Else Kobylinski and Sigismund Kobylinski, 1940-1945 and biographical notes regarding the Kobylinski family and background notes to the correspondence by the depositor.

Papers concerning South America as a haven for refugees from Nazi Germany, 1937, comprise a series of reports regarding emigration possibilities to Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay for German Jews, by Bruno Weil.

Papers of Abraham family, 1939-1945, comprise copies of correspondence between members of the Abraham family, documenting the family's experiences within Berlin and England.

Papers of the Central British Fund for World Jewish Relief, 1933-1965, detail the work of the CBF in shelters, hostels, internment camps, schools and foster homes, and also contain information on the finances of the fund. The collection notably include CBF minutes of its committees, finance, reports from individuals, and also a complete run of country files detailing the fund's work abroad; records of the Jewish Committee for Relief Abroad and other relief organisations, 1941-1953; records of the Children's Refugee Movement and the Jewish Refugees Committee; files on various other organisations which were involved with the work of the CBF to a greater or lesser extent, including the Agudas Israel World Organisation.

Papers of the Central-Verein deutscher Staatsbürger jüdischen Glaubens, 1903-1938, relate to the central organisation including the constitution and notably comprise management and committee minutes, reports and plans regarding the organisation's aims and objectives and finance records; files on the activities of the state and regional level sub-groups; files concerning women's organisations, youth organisations, members and officers, publication and propaganda, activities of other Jewish organisations, Zionism, emigration to Palestine, training for Jewish youth, Anti-Semitism, political, economic and legal situation for Jews in Germany, CV's relationship to religion and religious organisations, and the attitudes of writers and politicians to Jews.

Personal and family papers, 1900-1939, ranging from First World War army records to correspondence and passports of several hundred Jews, handed over to the Reichsvereinigung der Juden in Deutschland whilst the individuals were waiting in collection centres, having been rounded up by the Nazis prior to deportation to Eastern Europe. Minute books of meetings of donors to the Soup Kitchen for the Jewish Poor, Spitalfields, London, 1854-1872, with minutes of Finance Committee meetings, 1858-1871; correspondence and papers, 1857-1888, including printed accounts, 1857-1858, 1869-1872, 1883-1884, letters, 1871, 1887, and printed notices of meetings, 1888.

Papers of concentration camp inmates, 1942-1944, comprise copies of correspondence concerning concentration camps and the death of Jews and notably include a letter from the commandant of Gross Rosen concentration camp, Lower Silesia, to the Gestapo, Düsseldorf regarding the disposal of belongings of deceased Jew, Max Zobel, 1942; letter from Ernst Kaltenbrunner to all police chiefs stating that all executions are to be reported to the local justice department, with reasons for the executions withheld, 1942 and a letter from Stürmbahnführer, SD Latvia, suggesting a lack of concern about notifying the relatives of dead Jews, 1942.

Papers of Mitchell family, 1938-2001, comprise papers including a good conduct certificate for Edith Rosenthal (1000-/1); war-time Red Cross telegrams from Edith Rosenthal, in England, to her father in Berlin (1000/2-1000/3) and a letter providing some biographical information about Ernest Mitchell's family.

Papers concerning Antisemitism in the USA, 1925-1930s, comprising antisemitic printed tracts including correspondence between Hugo Valentin, N W Rogers and The Jewish Central Information Office regarding the antisemitic material in the Wiener Library (Ref 1001/1 - antisemitic tracts collection).

Heilbrunner's account of life in Dachau, 1933, is a typescript memoir of Jewish inmate, Heilbrunner, in 1933. Written in the form of a narrative in the first person; structured into four chapters, describes in some detail the conditions in the camp and the brutality of the camp guards, contains manuscript annotations and corrections.

Papers of Dr Max Dienemann, [1928-1936], comprise cuttings including one from Jüdisch liberale Zeitung showing article by Dr Dienemann, 'Das jüdische Ehescheidungsrecht' (Jewish divorce right), 1928; typescript essay by Dr Dienemann concerning divorce, entitled 'Die Ehescheidung auf bürgerlichen und jüdischen Recht', containing corrections and annotations, undated, and manuscript notes on the subject of Jewish divorce, by Dienemann, undated.

Papers of Robert Michaelis, [1962-1972], comprise original source material, 1056/1; drafts and notes, 1056/2 and printed source material, 1056/3 regarding the Dreyfus affair. Original source material includes correspondence including that of Marcel Thomas, conservator at the Bibliothèque Nationale and Robert Michaelis regarding the authenticity of recently discovered documents relating to the Dreyfuss affair; drafts and notes include an annotated draft of Der Prozess Dreyfus and printed source material including newspaper cuttings and various publications concerning the Dreyfus affair.

Papers of Hebrew Committee of National Liberation, 1945, comprise a letter from Hillel Kook (Peter Bergson), Chairman of the Hebrew Committee of National Liberation, to Chaim Weizmann, President of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, in which he explains in some detail his ideas for the settlement of Palestine.

Correspondence of the Ohly family, 1941-1947. This collection documents in part the experiences of a German Jewish family from Munich. The papers include original correspondence from friends and relatives and material from the Jewish organisations which arranged the details of the transport to Terezin. Includes: correspondence from Karl Traumann in Gurs, 1941, and Anna Ansbacher, Switzerland, 1945; papers and instructions from the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde (Jewish Community), Munich and the Reichsvereinigung der Juden in Deutschland (National Organisation of German Jews) and postcards from Terezin to Gertrud Ohly from Lotte Pariser, 1944.
