Biographical history

The Hambro Synagogue was founded in 1707, situated at Church Row, Fenchurch Street, E.C. It was one of the five original synagogues which grouped together to form the United Synagogue in 1870. It amalgamated with the Great Synagogue in 1936.

The Hambro Synagogue was founded in 1707, situated at Church Row, Fenchurch Street, E.C. It was one of the five original synagogues which grouped together to form the United Synagogue in 1870. It amalgamated with the Great Synagogue in 1936.

Deposited as part of a larger accession of material from the United Synagogue. The administrative, financial and charity records (items 1-55) form part of the original deposit. The registers (items 56-61) are part of an additional deposit.

Records of the Hambro Synagogue, consisting of administrative records including minutes and letter books; financial records; membership payments; records of charities; records of the Burial Society; photographs and registers of kethubot [marriage contracts].
