The International Academy of the History of Medicine was founded in 1962.

Dr Noel Poynter was born, 1906; Librarian, 1954-1964; Director of the Wellcome Institute, 1964-1973; founder member and president of the International Academy of the History of Medicine; died, 1979.

These files, which had belonged to Dr Noel Poynter were found during clearing the Enfield Stores of the Wellcome Institute Library.

Transferred to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre, May 1997.

Files kept by the International Academy of the History of Medicine's President, Dr Noel Poynter, of minutes, membership records, symposia and external relations, plus Poynter's correspondence with members, including prior to foundation of Academy, 1946-1973.

The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.
