Biographical history

The International Geographical Congress is currently the congress of the International Geographical Union which was established in Brussels in 1922. However, the history of international meetings of geographers is much longer. The first of a series of congresses met in 1871 in Antwerp.

Papers relating to the 1961 Congress were donated by Prof. Elkins.

Papers relating to the International Geographic Congress including correspondence, copies of papers submitted to the Congress, minute book of the organising committee, 1961-1964 and newscuttings, 1963-1964 for the 1964 Congress and papers, correspondence and minutes which relate to much earlier Congresses, notably those in 1891 and 1895 including comittee minutes, 1892-1895 and volume of printed circulars, 1895.
