History
Kingston University was established in 1992. Prior to this the University can trace its history back to 1899 with the founding of Kingston Technical Institute. In 1930 the Institute divided to form Kingston College of Technology and Kingston School of Art. These institutions reunited in 1970 to become Kingston Polytechnic which was joined in 1975 by Gipsy Hill Teacher Training College. The Polytechnic remained as such until gaining University status.
