William Mawhood was a woollen-draper of the Catholic faith. He lived in Cloth Fair, in the parish of St Bartholomew the Great, West Smithfield.

The records were purchased by Guildhall Library in 1957 and were catalogued in the same year. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
