Probate (also called proving a will) is the process of establishing the validity of a will, which was recorded in the grant of probate.
If a person died intestate (without a valid will) their money, goods and possessions passed to their next of kin through an administration (or letters of administration) which had the same form in law as a will.

Bequests include: household, domestic and personal effects to daughter Alice I. Spens (second codicil 12 June 1913); remainder of real and personal estate to be invested by trustees.

Letters of administration of estate of Ruth C. Fortune of 171 East 60th Street, New York City, USA, widow, 1940. Administration granted to son James C. Fortune of 40 Grange Park, Ealing, member of Auxiliary Fire Service.

Hatch and Rosa G. Miller.
