Webb's letter books compiled whilst a medical student, 1903-1909, containing letters from Webb to her friends, Mrs Annie Lancaster, Mrs Eliza Romiley, and Miss Christabel Cadbury, describing her life as one of the first women students at Birmingham Medical School, including newspaper cuttings regarding Edinburgh University's graduation ceremony, 1907. Webb prefaced each volume with an explanatory note dated 1924.

Letters of the Weekes family, comprising mainly correspondence between Hampton Weekes and his family, 1801-1803, whilst a medical student at St Thomas's Hospital, 1801-1803, detailing his expenses, his training and operations he saw by hospital surgeons, including those by John Chandler, Astley Cooper and Henry Cline; also includes letters from Owen Evans to Mr Weekes, 1796; letter from Mr Brown to Mr Weekes Jnr, 1806; letter from Charles Betham to Miss Weekes from, 1890. Papers of Sir Samuel Wilks, comprising volume containing testimonials for Samuel Wilks, 1843-1846, 1852-1853; letters to Wilks, from Alfred S Taylor, 10 Apr 1886, and W M Hughes, 9 Apr 1886, relating to publication of a papers in the Guy's Hospital Reports; testimonials to him for the position of Physician to Surrey Dispensary, 1852, including from staff at Guy's Hospital; certificates for Samuel Wilks' attendance as a student and at lectures at Guy's Hospital, 1846, and for winning the Pupil's Physical Society's essay prize, 1845; memorial signed by several hundred students of Guy's Hospital Medical School, expressing their extreme regret at the resignation of Dr Wilks.

The collection covers most aspects of Williams' life and career after 1939. Papers from her work with the British Colonial Service in Ghana, 1928-1936, were largely lost during transit to her next appointment in Singapore, but the typescript copy of her 1935 report The mortality and morbidity of the children of the Gold Coast is extant. Many papers relating to Williams' work with the British Colonial Service in Singapore, 1936-1941, were lost during the Japanese invasion, but she took a few files into Changi jail, where she wrote up the report An experiment in health work in Trengganu in 1940-1941. Notebooks, correspondence and writings made during her internment, when she was appointed as camp nutritionist by her fellow women prisoners, are also in the collection. Post-war papers cover most aspects of Williams' work, including positions with the World Health Organisation, the American University at Beirut and Tulane School of Public Health, as well as correspondence and collected reprints relating to work carried out in 'retirement' at Wyndham House, Oxford.

Papers of Albert Wilson, c1870, comprising a volume titled [H]uman [P]athology, Prof. Saunders, 2 containing manuscript notes by Wilson, taken at the Pathology lectures of Professor Sanders at Edinburgh University; and a loose sheet containing notes on Tubercular Phthisis. The sheet of paper is from the Edinburgh Medical-Missionary Society's Training Institution and Dispensary at No 39 Cowgate. Wilson was resident physician at the Cowgate Dispensary.

The material comprises notes, taken by Susan H. Cannon, of Wilson's lectures on pathology and the treatment of diseases by Swedish remedial gymnastics.

The collection covers Lord Moran's life and career. It includes papers (committee minutes, correspondence, notes, printed material, ephemera, articles, parliamentary papers, etc.) re his position as Dean of St Mary's Hospital Medical School, 1920-1945; as President at the Royal College of Physicians, 1941-1950; his role in negotiations over the establishment and structure of the NHS, 1942-1960; as Chairman of the Awards Committee, 1948-1962. His other professional activities are covered in general correspondence files; a series of medical records, including material on Winston Churchill, 1944-1965; subject files relating to his role on various government, educational and medical bodies, including the commission to determine whether Rudolph Hess was mentally fit to stand trial in 1945. The collection includes drafts and papers re Anatomy of Courage (including photocopies of his World War I army notebooks), and Winston Churchill: Struggle for Survival. There is also a section of unpublished writings and speeches, 1921-1970. Papers consulted by Professor Lovell in Australia while writing his biography of Lord Moran, were returned in two batches, the first in April 1990, when he helped with the initial sorting and listing of the papers, and the second in April 1991. Some of these papers have been returned to the main body of the collection, however most have been kept in a separate section in the list (section L). The collection also contains personal and family material, photographs, press cuttings and ephemera, and a section comprising personal and professional papers of Lord Moran's wife Dorothy, Lady Moran (d.1983).

Henry Leonard Wilson's papers, 1930-1968, relate to his unpublished paper on the blindness of the poet John Milton, and consist of correspondence relating to the paper, drafts of the paper, notes on Milton, articles by others on Milton, and correspondence between Ruth Wilson, Wilson's widow, and the Royal College of Physicians library about the posthumous publication of the paper.

Papers cover Witkowski's writings on medical history (and other areas of history) rather than his medical activities. MSS.5036-5038 comprise press cuttings, publishers' notices, reviews, etc., relating to Witkowski's writings, plus original poems, some photographs, and some letters to him about his work; they span the bulk of his career (1865-1920). MSS.5039-5085 consist of material related closely to various published works on medical history and art history by Witkowski: typescript and holograph drafts, annotated published material, etc. Within this block of material, MSS.5057-5062 consist of a detailed critique of Folie de l'Empereur by Augustin Cabanès (1862-1928), consisting of heavily annotated copies of the published work. Also worth noting are MSS.5063-5064, copies of Witkowski's Comment j'ai appris l'Histoire Sainte, a Rabelaisian and satirical anti-clerical history. Finally, MSS.5086-5088, written under the pseudonym "Docteur Clam", comprise travel writings, recording travels in Italy, Turkey, Romania and Hungary, in 1901 (MS.5086); Egypt, in 1901-1902 (MS.5087); and Italy, in 1905 (MS.5088).

Records of Leslie R Wolfson's dental practice, 1934-1987, consisting largely of accounts such as balance sheets, cash books, bills, receipts and tax papers relating to Mr Wolfson's dental practices in Enfield; sample of patients' record cards (patients unidentifiable); booklets, pamphlets, and so on regarding aspects of dentistry, National Health Service leaflets and other leaflets on dental charges; and correspondence concerning property transactions in Enfield including agreement for sale of general practice at Grange Park, Enfield.

The collection is arranged in chronological order and includes letters written by and to individuals concerned with work in this area, including: Dr Elizabeth Blackwell, Sir John Seeley, George Eliot, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, Cardinal Manning, Lady Strangford, Lord Shaftesbury, Mr Rickman J Godlee Dr Helen Wilson, Dr Sophia Jex-Blake, Frances Power Cobbe, Millicent Garrett Fawcett, Lord Baldwin and Margaret Lawrence (45 items, 1865-c.1972). Subjects include the training of women as doctors, the medical profession and their experiences as medical students.

Records of the Worshipful Company of Barbers, 1550-1917. The original records (except MS24584) have been returned to the custody of the Clerk at Barber Surgeon's Hall. However, microfilm copies of the following records are available: Court minute books; quarterage books; registers of freedom admissions; registers of apprentice bindings; financial accounts; livery lists, papers relating to property and papers relating to charitable giving. MS 24584 is a draft petition to the Lord Mayor and Aldermen concerning riots which had prevented the Company removing the bodies of four felons for anatomical practice.

Researchers wishing to access these records should do so at the Guildhall Library Rare Books table. The Library is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 to 16:45.
