MSS.2210-2211 are broader in subject than the rest of this block of material, comprising lectures in physiology; the remainder of the manuscripts in this block focus on issues of specifically tropical medicine. Kala-azar and malaria are particularly featured. MS.2208 also includes a list of birds in Dunduan. MSS.5692-5697 consist of illustrative material (primarily water-colours from microscope slides relating to tropical parasitic diseases), correspondence, cuttings and offprints, and miscellaneous other papers relating to Donovan's work on tropical medicine.

There are some small pen-drawings of alchemical apparatus in some inner margins. Inserted as a frontispiece, is a symbolic [?] sepia drawing of a man rescuing a child from drowning in a lake. This work was first published-in German-in 1600 at Middelburg: no record of a French translation has been traced.

MSS.2968-2988 are chiefly related to Hurry's publications; the best-represented subject in this block of material is "vicious circles" in disease and in general society. In addition, there are papers relating to Hurry's work on Imhotep (vizier and physician to the Pharoah Zoser) and to the woad plant. MSS.6821-6823 comprise correspondence: on the Japanese edition of Vicious Circles in Disease (MS.6821), on the woad plant (MS.6822) and general correspondence (MS.6823).

The collection centres on tropical medicine. MSS.3521-3522 consist of general notes on tropical medicine and on museums of tropical medicine; MS.3523 consists of an interleaved copy of Megaw's The first laws of health, considerably expanded.

The collection consists of original and copy documents relating to Viscount Nelson. Although it spans his career from 1780 to his death in 1805, the bulk of the collection centres on 1798 - the year of the battle of Aboukir Bay - and the three years 1803-1805, during which Nelson commanded the Mediterranean Fleet. Included are several hundred official reports and surveys concerned with the manning, ordnance, stores, defects and sick lists of the ships under Nelson's overall command, plus reports on courts martial, prize money, prisoners, sailors' pay, etc. Also present are weekly reports by the chief physicians of the Fleet comparing health on various vessels and giving details of treatments proposed; letters to Nelson on issues such as inventions, requests for places, etc.; and a collection of bills. The papers carry the signatures of most of the senior officers under Nelson and are generally addressed to Nelson himself.

'Chirurgie complète de Ph. J. Roux', Notes of lectures: stated to have belonged to Philibert Joseph Roux by Desgranges, the Paris bookseller. Written by the same hand as MSS. Nos. 4292, 4293, which are also notes of lectures by Roux, and No. 1970 [Cullerier]. Produced in Paris.

Loci communes medici. In Latin and French, by two different compilers. The earlier part in both volumes is entirely in Latin, and may have been begun about the middle of the 17th cent., though the date 1667 is found on fol. 371v of the Vol. 1. This section contains extracts from late 16th cent. and 17th cent. medical works. An entry on Vol. 11, fol. 49v bears the date 1666. The entries by the later compiler are in French and Latin, with French predominating, and contain extracts from medical writers, notes of cases, etc., dated from the later part of the 17th cent. to 1721 (Vol. I, fol. 327). In Vol. II there are a few entries in French, and some on astronomical topics by a third writer; among these the date 1759-in the extract on 'Aphélie'-occurs.

On the front covers are annotations by Dr B E A Batt and his father Dr C D Batt, including the names of Edward Batt (1741-1797), surgeon and apothecary, and Augustine William Batt (1774-1847), MRCS Eng. Both practised in Witney.

Urquhart's correspondence gives details of the Turkish Bath in Jermyn Street, which he helped to establish (1860-1861), and his involvement with other similar institutions. Correspondence of Harriet Angelina Urquhart, largely on literary and religious topics.

Lecture notes, case notes and abstracts of printed works compiled by Lyon Falkener in various professional positions, 1861-1948: most importantly as locum tenens at Claybury Asylum and the Western Fever Hospital, Fulham, and as Assistant House Surgeon at the Metropolitan Hospital, London. A few personal items, largely testimonials and photographs supplement these, together with medical papers by Falkener. Falkener's later career as a general practitioner at Icart, Guernsey, is represented by a collection of his prescriptions.

This volume is dated 1650 at the end. These are notes of Lectures in a Course on the general Practice of Medicine. As in that MS. there is the inscription: 'Ex Rev. D. Indico Mancini' written on the verso of the last leaf of each volume. On the verso of the last leaf of Vol. I: 'Indicus Antonius Mancinus Anno MDCLXXXiii': and on the second fly-leaf of Vol. II 'Del Ph[ilippo?] Fidelis Manzi'. Produced in Naples.

An incomplete transcript of Lisfranc's course of surgical lectures, probably delivered at his house at 149 Rue St. Martin, Paris, from 1 May 1822. The first volume of the original set, comprising the earliest lectures, is wanting, although a note on f. 1r. of MS. 7063 indicates that the course began on 12 Nov. 1821.

Recipe book, manuscript with a few printed cuttings pasted in, detailing chiefly medical recipes plus a few culinary ones. Stated by the original donor probably to have belonged to Thomas Martin and photocopy of Martin's diary for 1805-1815, detailing patients seen.

Papers of Henry Hill Hickman, 1824-1976, comprising original material, facsimiles and research notes, mostly formerly held in the Western Manuscripts Department's Autograph Letters Sequence.

Scrapbook kept by George Marsh, with notes on a wide variety of subjects and many newspaper cuttings inserted, 18th century.

The collection comprises copy letters to his parents and associated material, describing Buzzard's journey to the Crimean War and life there. MS.7862 comprises a volume of transcribed letters from Buzzard to his parents. MS.7863, also transcribed letters, duplicates this material but the text differs (initially only slightly, more substantially later) with personal notes removed; some illustrations, and blank spaces apparently left for illustrations, are inserted. The volume apparently comprises a revision of MS.7862 with a mind to wider circulation and publication, probably preparing it to form the basis of sections of Buzzard's With the Turkish Army in the Crimea and Asia Minor: a personal narrative. MS.7864 comprises notes on the letters (and on the 1st Duke of Wellington) by an unknown writer.

Diary of Captain Martin W Littlewood, Royal Army Medical Corps, from embarkation to join the B.E.F. in France in January 1917, through the battles of Arras and 3rd Ypres, the German offensive of Spring 1918 and the final advance leading to the Armistice, and on to his demobilisation in March 1919.

Research notes and drafts relating to two major works by Fraser-Harris. MSS.8109-8112, 8114-8120 and 8122 relate to the history of antisepsis and the essay 'Antiseptics before Lister: a historico-medical survey', which was the Prize Essay in the History of Medicine, University of Glasgow, 1932/3. MSS.8236-8255 and 8968-8989 relate to The History and Lore of Cymric Medicine, a proposed Wellcome Historical Medical Museum study that was never published. Wellcome and Fraser-Harris died close to one another and the momentum of the project was lost.
