The Association was originally called the "Metropolitan and National Nursing Association for Providing Nurses for the Sick Poor" until 1894, when it changed its name to the "Metropolitan Nursing Association for Providing Nurses for the Sick Poor". Its present title was adopted in 1925.

The Association was originally called the "Metropolitan and National Nursing Association for Providing Nurses for the Sick Poor" until 1894, when it changed its name to the "Metropolitan Nursing Association for Providing Nurses for the Sick Poor". Its present title was adopted in 1925.
The archives of the Association were given to the Manuscripts Section, Guildhall Library in 1973-4. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
Records of the Metropolitan District Nursing Association, formerly the Metropolitan Nursing Association for Providing Nurses for the Sick Poor. The records comprise: minutes and annual reports, 1873-1974 (Ms 14618-24); correspondence and reports, 1876-1974 (Ms 14625-7); agreements 1917-38 (Ms 14628-31, 14811-12); financial records, 1924-74 (Ms 14632-6, 14891-3); and staff records, 1875-1974 (Ms 14637-51). They were catalogued by members of Guildhall Library staff in 1973-4. The whereabouts of any further records is unknown.
The records have been arranged in order reflecting the record function, e.g. administration, financial and so on.
These records are available for public inspection, although records containing personal information are subject to access restrictions under the UK Data Protection Act, 1998.
