Biographical history

John Michie was a director of the East India Company, 1770-88, and High Sheriff of Hertfordshire. He died in 1788. The papers also relate to Jonathan Michie, a wine merchant of 35 Craven Street, Strand (died 1802). It is possible that John Michie was also a wine merchant, but entries in London directories list the business only under Jonathan Michie.
