Major W H Morgan appears to have served with the 711 (Middlesex County Council) Company, Royal Engineers, during the First World War.

Iceland was occupied by British forces in May 1940 despite its neutrality. It was considered strategically important for control of the Atlantic and the battle against U-boat attacks on convoys.

Book about Iceland sent to Major W H Morgan, DSO, County Engineer and Surveyor, Middlesex County Council, from the "officers, NCO's [non commissioned officers] and men of 711 (Middlesex County Council) Company, Royal Engineers", 1940. Enclosed is a covering letter from Major C J Teychenne, Officer in Command, who describes the activities of the company in Iceland and asks for any news from Middlesex.
