The 49th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers were formed in 1867 during the Fenian troubles from Special Constables recruited within the Post Office during that period. They later became the 24th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers.

The 49th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers were formed in 1867 during the Fenian troubles from Special Constables recruited within the Post Office during that period. They later became the 24th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers.
These records were deposited by the London Rifle Brigade in 1955, and were catalogued by Guildhall Library staff in the same year.
Records of the 49th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers, later the 24th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers, comprising: regimental orders, 1870-1871 (Ms 09408), and muster roll books, 1870-1909 (Ms 09409).
The records have been sorted into an order which reflects divisions between the different functions and operations of the organisation and its administration.
