Copies of documents relating to Romanian foreign policy, c 1932-1936 made in the archives of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Copies of documents, newsletters, journal articles, reprints, press summaries and press cuttings re the political and economic situation in Poland during the rise of the independent trade union Solidarity, the imposition of martial law and its aftermath. The papers mainly come from non official Polish sources, many issued by Solidarity or by their support groups in the west but there are a few papers from the official Polish or the Western media, 1978-1989 (mainly 1980-1985)

Memoirs of a anonymous young Polish woman following the Soviet invasion of Eastern Poland and her subsequent deportation to Central Asia, entitled "Liberation - Russian style" and marked "for private circulation", 1944.

Memoir by Frank Gann Redwood, entitled "In Europe's boiling pot: memories of a salior turned diplomat". This provides an account of the inter-war years in Hungary and throw light on the general history of Central and South-East Europe.

Picture postcards and some postcard sized illustrations, 1806-1946 (mainly 1898-1914). Most of them depict Russian scenes and people but there are also cards from Estonia, Finland and Britain. Some of the cards had been sent to Edmund W Richardson as editor of "The Picture Postcard". Relatively few however have been used and sent through the post. PhD thesis submitted by Margaret Tatiana Rose to Hull University, 1988, entitled "Philips Price and the Russian Revolution". Morgan Philips Price (1885-?) was correspondent for "The Manchester Guardian" in Russia from 1914 to 1918. He was a founder member of the Union of Democratic Control which opposed Britain's entry into the First World War. His reports from Russia became increasingly radical and supportive of the Bolsheviks and were eventually censored.

Lantern slides, collected by William John Rose, mostly made in Poland, showing views of Poland and ancient and modern sculptures and buildings; death notices of Germans reproduced from the German press in Poland, October 1939; examples of fine printing from Czechoslovakia from the late 1930s.

MA dissertation submitted to Georgetown University, Washington D.C. by Michael Joesph Rura entitled "Reinterpretation of history as a method of furthering communism in Rumania", 1960.

Illustrated report on the work of the Russkoe Studencheskoe Khristianskoe Dvizhenie za Rubezhom [Russian Student Christian Movement outside Russia] in the Baltic States 1929-1930, with a memoranda on the work of the Movement in Europe and another on its work in France, October and Novemember 1930. The report comprises 14 pages of photographs of meetings in Latvia and Estonia, with detailed explanations in English. A letter from A Nikitin, from the office of the Movement in Paris, to Major W Tudor Pole, London, dated 7 March 1931, is enclosed with the report and explains that Nikitin was author of the memoranda. He suggested that the report be shown to Sir Bernard Pares and then returned to Paris, the latter request was clearly not compiled with.
