John Henry Pyle Pafford was Goldsmiths' Librarian of the University of London Library from 1945 to 1967. He published works on librarianship, including 'Library Cooperation in Europe' (1935) and 'American and Canadian Libraries: some notes on a visit in the summer of 1947' (1949), and acted as an editor of 'The Year's Work in Librarianship' during 1939-1950. He was also an editor of literary texts, notably the Arden edition of Shakespeare's 'The Winter's Tale'.

The diaries relating to his European tours were given by J.H.P. Pafford in 1966.

Two carbon copies of diaries written by John Henry Pyle Pafford during his tour of European libraries undertaken in 1930, dating from 13 Feb to 29 Mar. This tour formed the basis for Pafford's book Library Co-operation in Europe (Library Association, London, 1935). Both diaries contain 100 leaves each.

Access to this collection is unrestricted for the purpose of private study and personal research within the supervised environment and restrictions of the Library's Palaeography Room. Access to individual items in Senate House Library archive collections may be restricted under the Data Protection Act or the Freedom of Information Act.
