John Henry Pyle Pafford was Goldsmiths' Librarian of the University of London Library from 1945 to 1967. He published works on librarianship, including Library Cooperation in Europe (1935) and American and Canadian Libraries: some notes on a visit in the summer of 1947 (1949), and acted as an editor of The Year's Work in Librarianship during 1939-1950. He was also an editor of literary texts, notably the Arden edition of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale.

Copies of correspondence, with a few loose sheet notes, written by John Henry Pyle Pafford in his capacity as editor of the Arden Shakespeare text of The Winter's Tale (1963), 1948-1962, mainly concerning problems of the text. Correspondents include Neville Henry Kendal Coghill, Una Mary Ellis-Fermor, Sir John Gielgud, Sir Walter Wilson Greg, Reverend E.O. James, Mary Madge Lascelles, J.M. Nosworthy, Alice Walker, and John Dover Wilson.

Access to this collection is unrestricted for the purpose of private study and personal research within the supervised environment and restrictions of the Library's Palaeography Room. Access to individual items in Senate House Library archives collections may be restricted under the Data Protection Act or the Freedom of Information Act. See Archivist for details. 24 hours notice is necessary for research visits.

Copies may be made, subject to the condition of the original. Copying must be undertaken by the Palaeography Room staff, who will need a minimum of 24 hours to process requests.
