This material was gathered by Paul de Monchaux and donated to UAL at the time of an Oral History interview being carried out (see UAL Institutional Memory Archive UAL/OH/2/24).

The Sculptor Paul de Monchaux, was born in Montral, Canada in 1934.

He studied at the Art Students League, New York (1952-1954) and Slade School of Fine Art, London (1955-58).

He became a Lecturer in Sculpture at the Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, Zaria, Nigeria, from 1958-1960.
Between 1960 and 1965, he lectured in Sculpture at Goldsmith’s College, London
From 1965 to 1986, he was Head of Sculpture and Head of Fine Art at Camberwell School of Art, London
Between 1977 and 1982, chairman of the Faculty of Sculpture, The British School at Rome.

He has undertaken a number of private and public commissions, including the design of sculptural benches at the Granary Square development, between 2008-2014, in Kings Cross, near the new site of Central St Martins.

The material donated to the UAL Archives and Special Collections Centre relates to his work teaching sculpture at Camberwell, and the Granary Square commission.
