Typescript account, undated, of the Chin Hills Battalion, Burma Regiment, British Army, over the period 1894-1947, comprising reports written by various officers [1897-1947], including accounts of operations and some lists of personnel. The section for the period 1894-1897 was not written at the time, but compiled in 1897 or 1898 from various sources.

Papers, 1921-1923, of William Charles Anderson, comprising correspondence, personal papers and photographs. The papers concern his time working in British Nyasaland on the cotton plantations at Mbewe and Gonda. Also includes printed notes on The Treatment of Common Ailments Among Natives and a number of photographs of Anderson, the estate and estate workers.

Papers, 1859-1897, of James and Hannah Legge, consisting primarily of letters written by James and Hannah Legge to their family, written between October 1859 and June 1897. These include those written by Hannah Legge from Hong Kong, 1859-1865, and those written by James Legge to his step-daughter Marian, 1866-1897 (lacking 1881-1889). Hannah Legge's letters give a vivid description of life in Hong Kong. She describes the Taiping Rebels, attitudes towards missionaries, and political and social events, in addition to giving graphic accounts of her trips to Chinese towns and provinces. His letters describe his life during his final residence in Hong Kong and upon his return to England as a University Professor. Also included in the collection are photocopied book extracts detailing missionary work in China and a pamphlet about Wang T'Ao, a scholar who helped Dr Legge in the translation of Chinese literature.

Collected papers, 1840s-1910s, relating to the Indian Mutiny, comprising manuscript notes, press cuttings including reproductions of photographs, engravings, and other illustrations, and manuscript and printed maps, and including information on British Army and Bengal Army soldiers involved in the Mutiny and the chronology of the Mutiny.

Photocopies and typed copies of papers, 1954-1971, collected by Roger Southall whilst a student (1970-1971) at Makerere Institute of Social Research (Kampala, Uganda), including notes, minutes, and press extracts, and concerning parties and politics in Uganda, particularly the Bunyoro district, the subjects including elections, General Idi Amin Dada, and military government.

Papers, 1972-1981 (some undated), on the Philippines, including typescripts, correspondence, maps, legal documents, press cuttings and other published material, some of the material produced by the Catholic Church, dealing with affairs in the Philippines, including the work of the Panamin government agency, the Chico River Basin Project (Northern Luzon) to dam the Chico River and submerge tribal villages, attempts to 'modernise' and convert minority ethnic groups to Christianity, including alleged abuses of human rights, and the political situation, including the policies of Ferdinand Marcos.

Papers relating to Joseph Ephraim Caseley Hayford, comprising photocopy of typescript, c1930, 'The Foundations of Self-Government: Historic Speeches by ... Joseph Ephraim Casely Hayford (Leader of the West African Congress)', by an [anonymous] admirer, containing speeches delivered by Casely Hayford to the Gold Coast Legislative Council between 1918 and 1930, on subjects including the achievements of the Gold Coast Regiment, colonial administration, the peace treaty of 1919, and African civil service payments, with tributes of the Legislative Council to him following his death appended; and photocopy of a typescript account of his life, 1935.
