George Rae was a founder, Vice President and trustee of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. He was also chairman and managing director of the North and South Wales Bank, which was acquired by the Midland Bank in 1908.

Deposited in the Manuscripts Section of Guildhall Library by the Chartered Institute of Bankers in 1995, alongside their own archive. The papers were catalogued by a member of Guildhall Library staff in 1997. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
