Saint James parish was established in 1845, and enlarged in 1851. The church was constructed in 1854.
Records of St James, Hatcham, Deptford, deposited by the Vicar in the London County Record Office, on 10 February 1955, 12 June 1957 and 17 September 1958. Further records were received in 1993 and 2001.
Records of the parish of Saint James, Hatcham, including Vestry minutes; Parochial Church Council minutes; Churchwarden's records; financial accounts; registers of preachers; papers relating to the parish school and the Sunday school; registers of banns; registers of baptisms and marriages; and parish magazines.
