Saint Mary Bothaw was situated on Cannon Street. It was also known as 'Saint Mary Boatehaw by the Erber'. The church was destroyed by the Great Fire in 1666 and the parish was united with Saint Swithin London Stone. Building materials from Saint Mary's were used to rebuild Saint Swithin's. Saint Swithin was itself destroyed by enemy action in 1941.

The records of St Swithin and St Mary Bothaw have been deposited in the Manuscripts Section of Guildhall Library at various dates. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.

The catalogue has been arranged in sections each with a code as follows: section A - Parish registers; section B - Vestry and parish officers; section C - Rate assessments and inhabitants lists; section D- Charities and estates; section E - Parish schools.
