The volume is dedicated to 'His most honored Lady Elizabeth Vice Countis of Powerscort. Are humbly dedicated these Chirurgical Labors of your Ladyships Most Dutiful and Obedient Servant, John Sanders.' This is probably Lady Elizabeth Boyle (d 1709), who married Folliot Wingfield, Viscount Powerscourt, of County Wicklow, Ireland.

Archival history

A note in the front of the volume states that the College was offered the manuscript for £10, but the Library Committee purchased it for £1 two years later.

Containing notes on treatments for various medical conditions, including gun shot wounds, ulcers, and the King's Evil (Scrofula), and advice on how to provide the Chirurgeons Chest for Military occasions; a list of medicaments bought from an Apothecary in Bow Lane, London, in 1689; a list titled Medicamentorum formulae apud medicos Londinenses usilationes; a list of herbal plants used in remedies; and a table of diseases.
