In 1983, Lina Prokofiev created the Serge Prokofiev Foundation, a British Charitable Trust, which in turn set up the Serge Prokofiev Archive in 1994. The Archive is funded and owned by the Serge Prokofiev Foundation and is housed at the Goldsmiths College, University of London. It is the only archival repository to be exclusively dedicated to Prokofiev studies, and has an active acquisition policy, with the view of regrouping all extant material and facilitating research by connecting all identified repositories of original sources.

Material created by Serge Prokofiev was deposited by Oleg Prokofiev in 1994 upon the creation of the archive; the papers of Lina and her son Oleg were deposited in various accessions from 1994 onwards. The Christopher Palmer material was given following his death in 1995.

The Serge Prokofiev Archive consists of copies of the private and business papers and correspondence of Serge Prokofiev, [1915]-1936; Lina and Oleg Prokofiev's private archives, consisting of personal and family correspondence, business papers, photos and press cuttings; scrapbooks and other material relating to Serge Prokofiev collated by Christopher Palmer; and pamphlets, articles, press cuttings and programme notes relating to performances of Prokofiev's work. Also housed in the Archive are a collection of literature on and around Prokofiev in a variety of languages, in particular English and Russian; Prokofiev's complete works in numerous editions; and a large collection of audio and video recordings. Copies of his original manuscript musical scores are held on microfilm and CDRom.

Serge Prokofiev's correspondence is arranged chronologically. Much of the rest of the archival material is unsorted.

By appointment only. Some private correspondence is closed to the public. Please contact the Curator for details.

At the discretion of the Curator.
Russian, English, French, German, musical notation

The archival material is unlisted.

The originals of some of the material are deposited at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.

Further material relating to Prokofiev may be found at the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art (RGALI) in Moscow; the Russian State Central Museum of Musical Culture (The Glinka Museum) in Moscow; and the Russian National Library in St Petersburg. Smaller collections are held by the Library of Congress Manuscripts Division, Washington D.C.; the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York; and the Department of Special Collections at Boston University.
