Mahduri R Kothari (1919-1985) was born in 1919 in Ranpur in Gujarat, India. She married Ratilal D Shah in 1936 and had two sons, Rajat and Gautam, who she brought up while continuing her studies and beginning her academic career. She was active in the field of education and research for over 40 years and published widely in the fields of educational administration and finance as well as psychology, testing and testing evaluation. She was also involved in work on mathematics, language learning, as well as continuing and special education. Towards the end of her life she became involved with the World Education Fellowship and was its president at the time of her death in 1985.

The collection was passed to the Library by Rosemary Crommelin, the General Secretary of the World Education Fellowship in 1990, to complement The Sadd Brown Library (held in The Women's Library Printed Collections).

The archive consists of biographical details and list of publications (1985-1990); research papers and articles (1960-1985); addresses at convocations (1980-1984); memorial lectures (1983-1986); conference addresses (1981-1982); speeches (1981-1987).

This collection is available for research. Readers are advised to contact The Women's Library in advance of their first visit.

The Women's Library archives also contain correspondence with prominent Indian women activists, such as within the Papers of Eleanor Rathbone (7ELR) correspondence with Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur (1889-1964); Indian Cabinet Minister and Begum Jehan Ara Shah Nawaz (1896-1976); first woman member of the All-India Muslim League Council.
