These papers relating to properties and businesses were collected for their general or antiquarian interest rather than having a united provenance (that is, being produced by the same institution or business).
These documents were obtained by the late George F. T. Sherwood of Brockley for his collection, which was later purchased by the Genealogical Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They were microfilmed by the Society, and have now been given to the Greater London Record Office.
Collection of documents relating to the parish of Saint George the Martyr, Southwark, including faculties, bills, receipts, notices, Vestry minutes, bonds and certificates. Also deeds, wills, and other legal documents relating to property ownership for other areas of London and Surrey.
The present arrangement brings together items which appear to be linked with the parish of St George the Martyr Southwark; the remainder seem to be unrelated and are listed borough by borough, followed by out-county. Wrappers used by Sherwood are kept with individual documents, but not noted in list, or numbered.
