In the Domesday book the manor of Stepney is described as part of the demense lands of the Bishop of London. In 1550 Bishop Ridley gave the manor to King Edward VI, who granted it to Lord Wentworth, and it subsequently passed to the Earls of Cleveland. The manor then passed to the Colebrooke family.
The manor of Worcesters was established in 1298 from land granted to the son of the Lord of Enfield. In 1550 it was granted to Princess Elizabeth, who, as Queen, granted it to Robert Cecil, Earl of Salisbury.

Manor of Stepney

MS 03035 was formerly owned by William Dethick, Garter King of Arms (1586-1604) and was purchased by Guildhall Library in 1931. It was catalogued by a member of Guildhall Library staff in 1932. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
Collection of documents relating to manors, comprising: admittance from the Court Baron of the Manor of Worcesters cum Enfield; legal forms for the use of a steward of a manor; and custumal and precedent book for the manors of Stepney and Hackney.
The items have been ordered according to the MS numbers assigned at the Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section.
