The Act of Union was a treaty (1 May 1707) that effected the union of England and Scotland under the name of Great Britain.
Bound with the Goldsmith's Library copy of the 'Queries' (Ref: G.L. 1705).
Manuscript relating to the Union of England and Scotland, entitled 'Answers to ye 14 Queries', being a reply to [J Ballantyne's] 'Some queries proposed to consideration relative to the Union now intended'. The 'Queries...relative to the Union..." are in fact arguments against it; the writer of the "Answers" (apparently a Scot) points out the fallacies in these arguments and supports the proposed Union.
