Eliza Wakelin was a Saint Thomas Hospital trained nurse. She was in charge of an ambulance train which was sent to the front line during the First World War to bring back the wounded to the Servicemen's hospital in Berkshire. She was awarded the Croix de Guerre for her work.

The records were gifted to London Metropolitan Archives by Mrs Hobbs, Eliza Wakelin's Daughter-in-law, in 2000.
Collection comprises photographs of both the ambulance train and the servicemen's hospital in Berkshire showing servicemen and nurses [including Eliza Wakelin]; and two letters regarding Miss Wakelin's health.
