Please note that access to a number of files in this collection (C.5/2-5, G.9, G.11/4, 5 and 7) is restricted as they include sensitive personal data (the relevant files are marked in the detailed list). Access is restricted for 100 years from the date of the last entry on the file. The Archivist may allow access to restricted files on condition that:

(a) the reader shall not use the information obtained from the records for any purpose other than the specific research described in their application for access.

(b) the reader shall not use the information obtained from the research in any way which might allow the identification of named individuals.

(c) the reader shall not divulge to a third party information contained in restricted records.

(d) the reader shall respect the confidentiality of any documents or information not connected with their research but which may be seen in the course of it.

Additionally, certain files are closed for 100 years from the date of the last entry on the file: Files B.1/7 and B.2/2/7 contain official hospital patient records and are closed until 2024. G.8/1 contains explicit and graphic personal medical data which, if made available, would cause substantial distress to the descendants of individuals named and is therefore closed until 2055.

Photocopies/photographs/microfilm are supplied for private research only at the Archivist's discretion. Please note that material may be unsuitable for copying on conservation grounds, and that photographs cannot be photocopied in any circumstances.
