Biographical history

John Whitwell, a general merchant, lived at 2 William Street, Blackfriars from 1819. Before that date he lived at 577 Kenterstein, Brussels for some time and continued to have links with English residents in Belgium thereafter. He may also have done accountancy work for some of his customers.

John Whitwell, a general merchant, lived at 2 William Street, Blackfriars from 1819. Before that date he lived at 577 Kenterstein, Brussels for some time and continued to have links with English residents in Belgium thereafter. He may also have done accountancy work for some of his customers.

These records were deposited in the Manuscripts Section of Guildhall Library by the firm of Collins, Dryland and Thorowgood via Berkshire Record Office and catalogued in 1956 by a member of Guildhall Library staff. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
